2 CHRONICLES MOMENT – (16MAY19) Jehoram was cursed by God
because he killed all his brothers and followed in the ways of Ahab. Elijah the
prophet sent him a letter to warn him of the judgment that was going to befall
him. As for Jehoram himself, he was warned that he was going to take ill with a
bowel disease and that his bowels were going to be expelled. What a painful
curse to endure due to his disobedience. Some biblical researchers say that he
had Crohn’s disease, others guess that it may have been blocked bowels of some
sort. Whatever the condition was that he was cursed with, physicians were not able
to cure it. God always has a way to get our attention. Sometimes He has to get
it because of our disobedience, and other times He tries to get our attention to
give us warnings and revelations concerning things to come. We should never
want God to get our attention through judgment when we can be obedient of our
own free will, and receive His favor over our lives instead. Something to
ponder…
QUESTION OF
THE DAY – (16MAY19) Athaliah was the daughter of King Ahab and was just as evil
as Queen Jezebel. She tried to kill all of her family but did not successfully
kill her grandson Joash because his aunt hid him in the temple. At the age of
seven, Joash was crowned king and Athaliah was dethroned and killed. Jesus
spoke of the day when a man’s enemies would be those of his own family. That
day is here and will increase. Many families and friendships ended over the
2016 election. People were split right down the middle and this nation is more
divided now than ever. Yet, one must ask themselves the question, “Will I stand
for Christ regardless of who leaves me?” This is a difficult position to be in
because your family is normally the closest people to you, but the day may come
where spouses will divide, parents and children will divide, siblings will
divide, and lifelong friends will divide because one will be for Christ and
another for earthly things. We must all decide that we will stand on the Lord’s
side and endure to the very end even if we have to do so alone. Something to
ponder…
2 CHRONICLES
MOMENT – (16MAY19) Joash started out well in obeying the Lord because he was being
guided by his uncle Jehoiada the priest. Unfortunately, after Jehoiada died,
Joash became wicked and allowed Judah to turn to idolatry. He even had
Zechariah, the son of Jehoiada, also a priest and prophet stoned in the temple
courtyard for giving him a Word from the Lord. Joash did this without any
consideration as to the kindness that Jehoiada had shown him throughout his
lifetime. Joash was later murdered in his bed and was succeeded by his son.
Christians
should have a heart for God regardless of what leader they are under.
Sometimes, they make the mistake of attaching their relationship with Christ
according to the leader they have, but having a relationship with the Lord is
an individual experience. Joash obviously did not have a relationship with God
for himself, but leaned on the relationship that Jehoiada the priest had. This
is revealing because as soon as the priest died, it was easy for Joash to turn
away from God. The Lord desires that we all have a unique relationship with
him. If you are married, your relationship with God cannot be based solely on
your spouse’s just because the two of you are one. You must each answer to God
for yourselves. The Bible says that there will be no marriage or the giving of
marriage in Heaven. Therefore, we will each give an account for what we have or
have not done while here on earth. Many people believe that they must have an “earthly”
covering, but your Covering should be Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God.
Having a pastor, teacher, evangelist, or someone who can spiritually be of
assistance is good, but at the end of the day, you must have a relationship
with Christ for yourself. Something to ponder…
