2 CHRONICLES MOMENT – (13MAY19) The Queen of Sheba had heard
about the wealth and wisdom of Solomon. God had promised him that He would make
him great and that promise was fulfilled because people far and wide came with
gifts and treasures yearly to hear Solomon speak. When the queen had seen and
heard for herself that all which had been told to her surpassed what she could
have imagined, she knew that God had truly blessed Solomon and that there was a
special love that God had for His people.
Christians sometimes make the mistake of trying to make their
own name great. They think that if they try to get to know this person or that
person, write this book or that book, drive a luxury model car, live in a prominent
neighborhood, have a super-size church with a certain amount of people, etc.,
that their name will be great. Yet, what they fail to realize is that when God
has favor on your life, you never have to be the one to do the maneuvering yourself.
God will arrange the pieces in your life to excel at the time of His choosing. We
may succeed in doing some things ourselves for a while, but if it is not backed
by God, it will eventually crumble. May we all learn to allow God to elevate and
promote us should He see fit, and not try to take matters into our own hands. After
all, when we do it our way, we are not doing it to glorify God, but ourselves. Something
to ponder…
QUESTION OF
THE DAY – (13MAY19) Jeroboam had turned away from God and caused the people to
do the same. It was so bad that some of the priests and Levites left their
property to go to Rehoboam’s side in order to serve the Lord because Jeroboam
no longer wanted them as priests. Some of the people followed them who wanted
to stay true to the Lord. There is a great lesson in this story. Sometimes, you
may have to leave what is familiar to go to what may be unfamiliar in order to fully
serve the Lord. You may have a Jeroboam on your job, in your family, amongst friends,
or even at your place of worship. Jeroboam aims to pull you away from God, so
that he can keep you on his side and lead you to idolatry. Anything that takes
your focus off of God is idolatry. Anything that causes you to compromise God’s
word is idolatry. Anyone who will have you to disobey God is in rebellion
themselves and will lead you to idolatry. Are you willing to forsake all for
Christ? Will you let go of a job that will have you to compromise Godly
standards if necessary? Will you leave that friend behind who will have you to
defy God? Can you stand against even family who are not on the Lord’s side? The
line is being drawn in the sand even now. Who will you stand for? Something to
ponder…
1 CHRONICLES
MOMENT – (13MAY19) Once Rehoboam had established himself as king, he turned
away from God. As a result, God allowed for the king of Egypt to ponder him and
the temple. The king took all the gold from the palace and temple as well as
the gold shields that Solomon had made. Rehoboam and the people humbled
themselves once more to God and the Lord did not allow them to be destroyed.
Yet, He allowed for them to be subjected to the Egyptian king so that they may
learn their lesson. Instead of gold shields, they were reduced to simple
bronze.
When God
elevates you, it is never good to turn your back on Him. Whomever the Lord
promotes, He can also demote when we turn away. Sometimes, we want God to give
us status, but we are oftentimes too immature spiritually to handle it. Many
Christian leaders started out well, but as time went by, they allowed their
elevated status to cause them to compromise the Word of God. It is better to be
in a posture of humility than be elevated and fall from grace. Rehoboam once
had gold, but later was reduced to mere bronze. We do not want to be bronzed
like he was. We want to be filled with the gold from Heaven, so that our
elevation will not be accursed by our disobedience to God. Something to ponder…
