Read the Bible in a Year (02MAY19)

1 CHRONICLES MOMENT – (02MAY19) Within the genealogy written within 1 Chronicles 6, we see that it mentions David putting some of the Levites in charge of the music for the house of the Lord when the ark was returned. This was very important to have the Levites in charge of this because music is a MINISTRY. They were responsible for handling the people and things of God. Therefore, all that represented God was to be Holy in His presence.

Many people downplay the power and influence that music has, but listening to either the right or wrong kind of music can set the tone for a person’s mood. Prior to David becoming king, he had been called to serve King Saul as a harpist because the evil spirits that tormented Saul only went away with the sound of music. Therefore, if music can make demons leave, can the wrong type of music also give them an invitation into a person’s soul? Of course, it can. Many artists have sold their souls to the devil for fame, money and power.

Not all music that claims to be Christian or Gospel is created equal. Some music is being used to seduce even the Christian that claims to be godly by taking lyrics from a secular sexual song and changing a few words to stamp Christian on it. It is important to judge the fruit before you buy. Some musical artists have demons attached to them and if you purchase their music, those same demons will become a part of you. Sad to say, some of the musical artists, including those who claim to be Christians, are living lifestyles contrary to that of a Christian and the music is being made only to make money. For example, a few years ago, the famous R&B singer, R. Kelly, made a gospel song called, “You Saved Me,” after he had been brought up on sex charges concerning alleged sexual acts with a minor. Yet, after the charges were dismissed due to lack of sufficient evidence, he went back to making derogatory music. But the Gospel community embraced the song without testing the spirit to see if he had changed for God.

We are all called to be ministers of reconciliation. We, however, cannot reconcile anyone to Christ if we are living contrary to God’s will and entertaining things such as music, movies, and other things that are not uplifting to Christ. Does every song that we listen to have to be Christian labeled? Ask God what He would have you to do with the music that you entertain and listen for His answer. Something to ponder…

QUESTION OF THE DAY – (02MAY19) Jozadak’s name means “Jehovah justified” and was listed in the genealogy. He had been taken into exile by Nebuchadnezzar when the Babylonians conquered Jerusalem and Judah. His name has significance in its meaning. Judah and Israel had been disobedient to God. They did every possible wicked thing that could be imagined and had no real heart for change. Therefore, when God allowed them to go into exile, He indeed was justified.

One day, God’s hand is going to remove from this land, and He will be justified. God has given us as a nation an abundance of grace and mercy. Yet, we as a nation refuse to give up our sins. It is not good enough to say, “God bless America.” We are not appreciating His blessings when we live in total defilement of His ways.  Knowing this to be true, are you doing all you can to witness to others? Are you sharing the gospel about Christ to those that you know are lost? Do you have a plan to evangelize in your community? What are you doing for Christ to usher souls to Him? We must all do our part. You cannot wait on the preacher, evangelist, teacher, or someone else to do what you can do. Everyone plays a part. Are you doing yours? Something to ponder…

1 CHRONICLES MOMENT – (02MAY19) In our readings we see where it takes a break from the genealogy to mention the Levites who had been given land by the Israelites. God had told Moses that the Levites were not to have an inheritance because He was going to be their inheritance. They were, however, given towns and their pasturelands. One day, we will have some new real estate. It will not be on this old earth because God is going to create new heavens and a new earth. Yet, we will have a new home in glory. Our land will never be taken from us. We will never have to take out a mortgage, pay a landlord, take out a second mortgage, get an eviction notice, or go into foreclosure. It comes without leases, contracts, or deeds, but there is just one catch. Your name must be written in the Lamb’s book of Life. That’s it! Simple huh? Maybe not, but God gives us the ability to rely on Him by accepting Jesus into our hearts and living for Him. That is the ultimate deal guaranteed to make all parties happy in the end. Something to ponder…
