JOSHUA MOMENT – (13MAR19) Word had spread quickly as to how God
had given the Israelites victory over their enemies throughout Israel’s foreign
neighbors. The Gibeonites devised a plan to safeguard themselves against the
Israelites and have them sign a peace treaty with them. They were successful in
their deception only because the Israelites failed to consult God prior to
entering their contract. If Joshua had inquired of God first, he could have
avoided being fooled by the Gibeonites. Sometimes we make the mistake of making
decisions without inquiring of God as well. We tend to think that we know what’s
best only to land in hot water and be in need of rescuing. Many traps of the
enemy could have been avoided if we had consulted God first. Some people rushed
into a relationship, took on a job, moved to a new location, signed a business
deal, and even joined a church without asking the Lord if it was the right move
to make. It is important that we always consult God prior to making a decision
rather than after we have fallen on our faces. One thing to remember is a good
decision is never a rushed decision and a God’s approval will result in doors not
having to be forced open but readily opened by God himself. Something to ponder…
QUESTION OF THE DAY – (13MAR19) Joshua commanded the sun and
moon to stand still when he was fighting a battle. The Lord made this happen,
which gave Joshua additional hours of daylight until he had the victory over
his enemies. Similarly, when have you needed the sun to stand still in your
life? Has there ever been a time when you needed the Lord to press the pause
button so that things would work out for you and He did? God is always there to
help His children, and even though it may not always be as we want, He knows
the end from the beginning and does so in the manner that He desires. Sometimes,
the sun standing still in our lives means “us” being the ones the stand still
and allowing God to work. Something to ponder…
JOSHUA MOMENT – (13MAR19) On all accounts, Israel should
have been defeated when they went to battle against their foreign neighbors.
These were kingdoms with fortified walls, experienced kings and mighty armies
and yet, Israel defeated them all. It was not by Israel’s own might that they
were victorious, but it was because they served a Mighty God who was their Defender.
Numbers were not needed when God was their Backer. It is the same way today.
Many people put their faith in walls, politicians, retirement plans, banks,
church leaders, and all sorts of gods that cannot save. God is the one who can
deliver us from the enemy. We cannot have one victory without God rather spiritual
and/or physical. God can do what no man can do and in Him we are to have our
total trust. Something to ponder…
