JOSHUA MOMENT – (15MAR19) Joshua had the responsibility of
dividing the territories of the land that the Israelites captured amongst the
tribes. The tribes of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, felt that they needed more land
because they had grown to be numerous and their area was near the forest where
the Canaanites still lived. The Canaanites had chariots that were made out of
iron and the tribes of Joseph believed that they were not powerful enough to
overtake them. Nevertheless, that’s exactly what Joshua expected them to do.
Joshua reminded them that they were more powerful than the Canaanites and if
they wanted the land, they had to take it by force. How many times have God
promised us things, but we were too afraid to grab hold of it? We may have been
prophesied to that we would do wonders in ministry, but we did not pray, fast,
study, and even get a mentor to get there. We may have been told that we would
get a promotion, but we did not go after it by learning additional skills and
getting more education. We may have been told that we would have the home that
we wanted, but we did not get our credit together to line it up with the word
spoken. One thing that we must be mindful of is that when God gives a word to
us, it is not for us to twiddle our thumbs and wait for the sweet by and by.
The Bible says faith without works is dead. This does not mean that we go ahead
of the Lord, but what it does mean is that we be proactive with setting the stage
for whenever God decides that it is time to bring that promise to fruition. For
example, if God promised you a spouse, do not go places with your hair unkept,
holes in your clothes, dirt on your face, lack the skills to boil water, and keep
house like you’re living with pigs. Look your best, do the things of the Lord, be
domestically inclined, and in time, He will bring you and that spouse together.
We must do our part in preparing ourselves to receive the promise and allow God
to do the rest. Something to ponder…
QUESTION OF THE DAY – (15MAR19) Joshua had to ensure that
the Israelites took hold of the land that God promised they would have. He had
to treat the Israelites like sheep in getting them to move because they would
not do it on their own. Seven tribes were left who needed their inheritance,
but Joshua asked them as to why they had not taken possession of it. Therefore,
he had to micromanage the situation and put them on the right path to obtaining
what God had given to them. Do you sometimes need motivation to do the things
of God? Do you find that you do not study the Word as often as you should, pray
as much as you should, or fast as much as you should without motivation?
Sometimes that motivation comes with “Just Doing It.” We have to do as David
did by encouraging ourselves in the Lord, and sometimes that includes motivating
ourselves to do what God has for us just by getting in the pin and doing it. Something
to ponder…
JOSHUA MOMENT – (15MAR19) The tribes were finally getting
the land of promise that had been told to their ancestors by God. Every land
that they conquered was a fulfillment of the oath that God made with Abraham,
Isaac, and Jacob. All they had to do was to be obedient to God and He would keep
blessing them with more. We too have a Promised Land to look forward to. One day,
this earth will be no more, but God will create a new Heaven and a new earth.
All of the sin, disease, death, sorrow, and pain will be no more. Jesus said
that in His Father’s house are many mansions. We can all look forward to
getting the land of promise if we endure to the end. I look forward to that
blessed day. How about you? Something to ponder…
