RUTH MOMENT – (26MAR19) Naomi’s husband had taken his family
to Moab because Judah had experienced a famine, so he thought that his family
would be best cared for in another land. However, during their stay there,
Naomi’s husband died. Her two sons died as well after they had married two
Moabite women, Orpah and Ruth. Naomi, having heard that God had blessed His
people once again decided to return to Judah. Ruth, her daughter-in-law went
with her, but Naomi felt cursed because she had lost her husband and two sons.
What she did not know was that her blessing was with her all along, but her
grief blinded her where she was not able to see it. She could only see what she
had lost, but she was unable to see that her future was walking alongside her
and that she was more blessed than what she realized. How many times have you
possibly overlooked a blessing that was staring you in the face by being
focused on past hurts, losses, disappointments, and failures? Naomi did not
know that she would be in the family of the greatest Gift that the world would
ever receive. That Gift was Jesus. Even though God had allowed her to suffer
loss, He was preparing the way for redemption and Ruth was a part of that plan.
Sometimes we make the mistake of thinking that our blessings will come through
one door, but when that door closes, we are often filled with despair.
Nevertheless, when God closes one door, it’s because He has another door that
will open with something far even better. Something to ponder…
QUESTION OF THE DAY – (26MAR19) Ruth told Naomi that she
wanted to glean in the fields in order to ensure that they had something to
eat. Naomi approved and Ruth went to work in the field of Boaz. When he saw
her, he was kind to her and gave her favor with his workers where she had more
than enough when she went back home. Have you been waiting for God to do
something special in your life? Are you waiting on promises to be fulfilled and
it seems to be taking a long time to take place? Get busy doing the Lord’s work
as you wait. Ruth did not just wait for something to happen in her life, but
she went to work and while she was working, the blessing came her way. Many people
are waiting for God to do wonders in their life, but God is also waiting to see
what you do during your waiting season. Whatever God has promised you, He will
fulfill, so don’t just be a couch potato, but do something for the kingdom of
God. If you get busy, your blessing may come sooner than you think. Something
to ponder…
RUTH MOMENT – (26MAR19) Jewish historians have written that
Boaz was eighty years old and Ruth was forty when they met and married. They have
also written that Boaz died the day after his wedding, so their only child from
their union was Obed. Rather accurate history or not, Boaz was a true gentleman
and a man of character. He was kind to Ruth by allowing her to work in his
fields, gave her food to eat with his workers, and even when he was startled by
her laying at his feet, he did not scold her, but treated her with dignity and
respect. He ensured that no one saw her, so that her name would not be tarnished
by having been at the threshing floor where only men were allowed, and gave her
grain to ensure that her mother-in-law was cared for as well. Boaz was Ruth’s
overseer, protector, provider, and redeemer. Jesus is the same way with us. He is
the Overseer who ensures that we are treated with love even when others may not,
dignity when we fall short and respect though we oftentimes mess up. He is our
protector to keep us safe from the enemy’s traps. He is our Provider who sees
to it that we are cared for and have all of our needs met. He is our Redeemer
for He came to set us free from the bondage of sin so that we may have eternal
life. Jesus is our spiritual Boaz, and all that we need, we will find in Him,
for He loves us with an unconditional love. Something to ponder…
