JOSHUA MOMENT – (17MAR19) Joshua was old and had fought many
battles for the Lord, so he held and assembly for the Children of Israel. He
reminded them of what God had done for them from the time that they left Egypt
until the time that He fulfilled all the promises He made to their ancestors in
giving them the Promised Land. God kept His covenant with Israel, but in order
to keep what God had given to them, they had to remain obedient and follow the
ways of the Lord. They were not to associate with their heathen neighbors, or
they would be tempted to serve their foreign gods and bring down the wrath of
God on themselves. God is still a faithful God. He never departs from His
promises and fulfills everything that He says He will do. We are the ones who
tend to go astray and turn from Him, but He remains faithful to us.
Unfortunately, the world is becoming more sinful and is bringing down God’s wrath
upon its head. Yet, just as Joshua reminded the Children of Israel to remain
faithful to the Lord, we too must tell others to remain faithful and those who
do not know the Lord, we are to share Jesus with them. Time is getting short
and Jesus is soon to return. We do not know the day nor the hour, but we know
that things are wrapping up. We must teach children the ways of the Lord so
that they will be God-fearing adults. We must tell our co-workers, families,
politicians, neighbors, friends, associates, and everyone that we meet that
Jesus is soon to return. We all have a work to do and that work will soon cease,
but until that day, God expects us to make the most of our time and spread the
gospel to everyone even if they scoff, mock, ignore, or persecute us. We must continuously
share with others the goodness of the Lord. Something to ponder…
QUESTION OF THE DAY – (17MAR19) Joshua had summoned the
Reubenites, Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh to come to him so that he could
give them their blessing for them to return home. They had been the ones in the
forefront when it came to defeating Israel’s enemies and had been given land
during the time of Moses. God had given them peace from their enemies, so they
were now able to enjoy their inheritance. There was, however, a
misunderstanding that took place upon their return. They built and altar for
their descendants to know that they too had a part in the Lord’s blessings due
to their area where their land had been given, so that there would be no
confusion. The other Israelites mistakenly thought that they were building an
altar to worship other gods and were determined to go to war against them in order
to avert God’s wrath from coming down on them all. Nevertheless, when the
returning tribes explained the situation, everyone was pleased that it was not
as they had thought and that no one was rebelling against the Lord, so they all
returned to their homes in peace. Have you ever misunderstood the actions of
others? Have you ever been guilty of making the wrong assumption about someone
where it could have ended a good relationship? Sometimes, we can assume the
wrong thing when it comes to people if we do not ask the right questions. It is
never good to take sides until you have both sides of a story. Many relationships
have been destroyed based on false assumptions. Something to ponder…
