JOSHUA MOMENT – (12MAR19) Joshua had a battle that he was
about to fight against the king of Ai. The Lord had promised that He would be
with him and would deliver his enemies into his hands. When he was near the
city of Jericho, Joshua looked up and saw a man with a drawn sword. Joshua
approached the man and questioned his loyalties. Little did Joshua know, prior
to asking, that he was speaking to the commander of God’s army. He fell down out
of reverence before the representative of the Lord. There are some similarities
between Moses and Joshua that one may take note of regarding events surrounding
these two leaders. a) God was with both of them and gave them both instructions
regarding His people. b.) Moses was eighty and Joshua was around eighty years
old when they began to lead the Children of Israel. c.) They both were told to
take off their shoes for they were standing on holy ground. d.) God parted a
body of water during the time of both of their leaderships for the Children of
Israel to cross over. e.) Moses had to hold up his arms and Joshua had to hold
out his javelin for Israel to win their wars. f.) Both sent spies to scout out
the land. g.) Both had Passover to commemorate their being delivered from Egypt
and their enemies. h.) Both encountered a man within their camp that fell into
rebellion where he and his whole family were destroyed. i.) Both gave the Law
of God to the people. Something to ponder…
QUESTION OF THE DAY – (12MAR19) After the fall of Jericho,
Joshua placed a curse upon anyone who would try to rebuild the city. It would
cost that man his first-born and youngest sons if he was to attempt to rebuild
the city. This is important to remember later on in books to come. When God
condemns something, it is not for us to try to change it. We cannot bless what
He curses and no one can curse what He blesses. Have you ever thought about doing
something that you knew was not pleasing to God? Did you think that God would
change His mind and then bless it? Many people pray for things that God has
cursed and make the mistake of thinking that they can somehow move God to undo
what He has cursed. They only bring about a curse upon their own heads. Something
to ponder…
JOSHUA MOMENT – (12MAR19) The Children of Israel were told
not to take anything for themselves when Jericho was destroyed, but the gold,
silver, and bronze where to be taken for the Lord. Achan, however, decided that
he would defy God and take some things and hide them for himself. In so doing,
he brought about a curse on the Children of Israel when they went to battle
against the Amorites. Joshua was unaware as to why the defeat took place, but
the Lord told him what to do to find out. In the end, Achan was the corporate
and brought about destruction on himself and his entire family. The United
States has been blessed with much, but we too are guilty as a nation of
bringing about destruction on ourselves. We have known the ways of the Lord and
yet, due to our greed, lust, cowardness, and ungodly compromise, we have
allowed sin to take over in and outside of the church, which has caused our
nation to sin. We have many Achans in the camp and sadly, they are in the
church. Those of us, who are trying to stay true to the Lord, must continue to
warn the Achans to return to the Lord. We may not be able to save this nation
as a whole, but we can still help to usher souls into the kingdom of God.
Something to ponder…
