Read the Bible in a Year (13APR19)

1 KINGS MOMENT – (13APR19) Solomon was new to the throne, but he knew that he needed help to govern God’s people. So, when God came to him in a dream and asked what it was that he wanted, Solomon asked for wisdom. He told God that he was young and did not have the experience to lead a nation such as Israel. He wanted to lead them justly because he knew that he had been entrusted with a great task. God answered Solomon and not only made him the wisest man who ever lived, but he gave him wealth, honor, and promised that he would have long life if he was careful to follow His ways.

Many people believe that they are wise in their own right. Stephen Hawking, an English theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author who was director of research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at the University of Cambridge, was considered to be a very intelligent man and yet, he did not believe in God and was a self-professed atheist. Here is an excerpt from an interview he did. [He said during an interview with El Mundo in 2014: “Before we understand science, it is natural to believe that God created the universe. But now science offers a more convincing explanation. What I meant by ‘we would know the mind of God’ is, we would know everything that God would know, if there were a God, which there isn’t. I’m an atheist.”] The Bible says, however, “…The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good” (Psalm 14:1).

There will always be those who choose to deny who God is, but without God, man would not exist nor would have ever come into being. Just as Solomon asked God for wisdom, we too are to ask God to give us wisdom in all areas of our lives. The Bible says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him” (James 1:5). The Lord invites us to ask for wisdom, discernment, and knowledge. We may not have all the wisdom that Solomon did, but He will give us a generous amount for what we need. Wisdom from the Lord is needed now more than ever due to the increase of wickedness and deception. We should always pray and seek the Lord’s face before making any decision in life, for He knows the end from the beginning and can help us where we often have blind spots. Something to ponder…

QUESTION OF THE DAY – (13APR19) God had given Solomon peace during his reign. He was blessed beyond measure and many people from all over the world came to hear him speak. He spoke of science, marine life, and things that he had never studied, but had been given to him from God. The Lord’s favor was on his life. Do you believe that the Lord has favored you as well? Sometimes, it is hard to see because we are often faced with many challenging circumstances. Yet, one day, if we endure to the end, we will see that everything we went through helped us to receive the reward we’ll get at the Bema Seat of Christ. God loves His children beyond measure, so we can be sure that the Lord favors us, and that we will be able to taste and see that the Lord is good up close and personal sooner than we know. Something to ponder…
