1 KINGS MOMENT – (12APR19) David was of old age and was no
longer able to retain his body heat. His attendants suggested that they get a
young virgin to keep him warm. They found a beautiful young woman named Abishag
to tend to David’s needs. Wanting to take advantage of the moment, Adonijah, David’s
son, thought that he would set himself up to be king and had the support of
Joab and Abiathar the priest. Nathan the prophet found out Adonijah’s plans and
went to Bathsheba so that she could warn David. David immediately made Solomon
the king over Israel and sat him on his throne. Upon hearing what David did,
Adonijah’s supporters dispersed and left him holding the horns of the altar for
mercy. Solomon had been promised the kingship after his father had passed, but
for a moment, it seemed that it was not going to happen. Yet, what was meant
for Solomon was for him and nothing or no one could stop it. It is the same way
in the lives of God’s people.
God may have made a promise to you concerning
something in your life. You may have waited a long time for that promise to be fulfilled
and it may seem as if it will not come to pass. God may have promised you a job
promotion, but someone else seems like they will get it over you. You may have
been promised restoration in your marriage, but it seems as if things are
getting worse and not better. You may be waiting on a particular Spiritual
gift, but have had to watch others receive what you have been praying for. You may
have been promised and increase in finances, but you only seem to get bill
after bill and notice after notice. One thing that you can take from the story
of Solomon is what’s for YOU is for YOU. It does not matter how the enemy
plots, plans, and schemes to prevent you from receiving the promises of God.
When the Lord is ready for you to receive your inheritance, no demon from hell
can stop Him.
There are plenty of examples in the Bible to prove this to be
true such as with Ishmael, even though he was first of Abraham’s blood lineage,
Isaac received the promise; Jacob was to receive the promise even though Esau
was born first; Joseph received the blessing even though his brothers had him
sold; David received the kingship despite Saul trying to have him killed; what
God has desired in His heart for you to have will come to past and His WORD
will never return unto Him void. Something to ponder…
QUESTION OF THE DAY – (12APR19) Prior to David’s death, he
left his son with words of wisdom. He told him to be strong, act like a man,
and walk in obedience to the Lord’s commands so that he and his descendants
would be blessed and always have a successor to the throne as promised by God. David
knew the importance of handing down Godly wisdom to his son and was speaking
from his own personal experience with the Lord. It is so important for
Christian parents to not only be a Godly example to their children, but to
raise them up in the ways of the Lord. The devil is stopping short of nothing
to exploit the minds of the youth and parents, grandparents, guardians,
teachers, and those in authority must ensure to fight the spiritual battle on
behalf of your children or the devil will succeed in corrupting their minds.
Parents need to be their children’s intercessors and constantly pray on their
behalf that the Lord will keep them in all His ways.
David told Solomon to be
strong, and it is important for children to have strong minds for the Lord and
yet, humble to follow His ways. David also told his son to act like a man. In
today’s times, children are being taught that they can choose whatever gender
they want to be and that it is okay to live as a homosexual, transsexual,
pansexual, and any other sexual lifestyle that they choose. Parents must TEACH
their children what the Word of God says and not allow them to follow the ways
of Baal. This means that parents must not be politically correct when teaching their
children, but if they see a man, call him a man. If they see a woman, call her
a woman. Pray for your children to have spiritual discernment, so that they
will not be fooled.
Let your children know that it is NOT okay to act, dress,
or even support things that are contrary to God’s laws regardless of what
society says. Ask yourself the question, “If I should leave this earth before
my child does, have I done all that I can do to ensure that my child walks in
the ways of the Lord?” If you cannot say YES to that question, the time to begin
is NOW. Something to ponder…
1 KINGS MOMENT – (12APR19) Solomon had some spring cleaning
to do in the sense of getting rid of some people and putting others in their
place when it came to his kingdom. David had given him instructions to follow
to make things right regarding some of the people who had done him and/or
others wrong during his reign. Joab, his commanding officer, had taken two previous
commanders’ lives, Abner and Amasa, without David’s instructions. Therefore,
David told him to use wisdom in dealing with him. Joab had also killed Absalom
which David never ordered him to do. Solomon had to deal with a few others such
as Shimei (he cursed at David), Adonijah (Solomon’s brother), and Abiathar (the
priest). David told Solomon of the ones who treated him well and helped him during
his many trials.
There are times when we too must do some “spring cleaning” in
our lives. When God gives you a promotion, not everyone can go with you on your
climb. This is not to say that we are to mistreat people, but there are some people
whom God allows to be in our lives for a short season, and others who are
supposed to be there for a lifetime. There are also times when you must eliminate
people, places, or things when God has turned the chapter in your life. For
example, if God delivered you from alcoholism, you cannot continue to hang
around your former drinking buddies, or they will have you back at rock bottom.
If you are trying to live a life drama free, you can not invite or hang around
people who are toxic and bring nothing but drama to your life if you desire
peace. If you are a Christian, you cannot go places where your worldly friends
may go if you desire to truly follow Christ. If you are in ministry, you must
watch your words, places you go, and people you regularly associate with if you
want to minister to them and not encourage their unrighteous behavior.
The Bible
says that we must not allow our good to be evil spoken of (Romans 14:16).
Therefore, there are times when we must clean out the old and allow God to
bring in the new. Whatever is not of God is not for us to partake in less we
fall ourselves. The Apostle Paul wrote, “No,
I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached
to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize” (1 Corinthians
9:27).
Something to ponder…
