1 KINGS MOMENT – (14APR19) God had told Solomon as he was
building the Lord’s temple that if he was careful to follow in His ways, he
would receive the promises that had been told to David through him. God was
reminding Solomon to stay on course and to not sway regarding the things of
Him. Solomon needed to stay in obedience with the Lord’s commands in order to
receive all of His blessings, or he would forfeit the things God had for him.
We too must be careful to obey the ways of the Lord even while doing the Lord’s
work. Solomon was honoring the Lord by building his temple, but the Lord still
reminded him that it was more than just doing a good work to keep him in good
standing with Him. It is the same for us as Christians as well.
Good works is
not going to get anyone to Heaven, but obedience to the will of the Father. Recently,
a popular rapper was killed, and famous artists came to his funeral to celebrate
the great things that they said he had done. All of his good works were great
indeed, BUT if he died without coming to the acknowledgment of Christ as his
Savior and repenting from sin, his good works would not have been enough to
help him to enter Heaven. We must all examine ourselves to see if we are only
doing good works, or are we doing both good works and serving God through obedience.
Remember, the Prophet Samuel told Saul that obedience was better than sacrifice
(1 Samuel 15:22). Something to ponder…
QUESTION OF THE DAY – (14APR19) The Lord waited four-hundred
and eighty years before He had a temple made for himself. This was the time from
when the Children of Israel first left Egypt till Solomon finally completed it.
Yet, God was in no rush and had patiently waited till the time that He was
ready to establish His temple for His dwelling. Sometimes, we are in a hurry
for God to do things in our lives. We think that we know best as to when those
things are to take place and yet, even God waits for things to happen in the
right time. If the God of the Universe, who created all things, can wait patiently
for things to come to fruition Himself, shouldn’t we be all the more willing to
wait on the Lord to do His perfect work in us in His own timing? Something to
ponder…
