2 KINGS
MOMENT – (23APR19) The Arameans could not understand why every plan they made
against the king of Israel failed, until one of their soldiers let the king
know that Elisha was the prophet who was telling the king of Israel all of
their secrets. The king of Aram sent his officers to go capture Elisha and they
surrounded the city. Elisha’s servant saw that the city was surrounded and was
afraid when he told Elisha. Elisha, however, told the servant to not fear and
prayed that the Lord would open his servant’s eyes to see what he saw. The
servant saw that the Lord’s army was all around them. God blinded the army’s
eyes where they could not see, and Elisha led them to the king, but instead of
killing them, Elisha told the king to feed them after he had prayed for their eyesight
to be restored. They feasted on their meal and returned home.
Sometimes,
we are just as blind as the servant was. We make the mistake of seeing the here
and the now instead of seeing what the Lord can do. We can at times allow our spiritually
blurred vision to prevent us from seeing that God has already handled the
situation that we fear the most. Yet, if we pray just as Elisha did and ask God
to open our eyes, we too will see the protection of the Lord surrounding us,
and that whatever crisis we face, the Lord already has given us the victory.
Something to ponder…
QUESTION OF
THE DAY – (23APR19) There had been a severe famine in the land and the king was
so upset with God and Elisha, that he swore to kill Elisha. But first, he sent
a messenger to Elisha to pose the question as to why he should wait on God.
Elisha told the messenger to tell the king that the next day, around the same
time, there would be an end to their hunger and a seah of the finest flour
would sell at a shekel and two seahs of barley would sell for a shekel at the
gate of Samaria. The messenger doubted that this was possible and made a
statement that even if the floodgates of Heaven would open how could an event
take place. Therefore, Elisha told him that he would see it happen, but would
live to eat any of it and Elisha’s words happened just as he spoke them. Have
you ever doubted that God could do the impossible? The king was mad at God, but
he did not have faith despite all the times that the Lord had gave him advance
notice concerning his enemy’s plans. The messenger dared to say what Heaven
could do and this is why a curse was pronounced over him. The Bible lets us
know that faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things
we do not see. Without faith, we cannot please the Lord. The devil wants us to
doubt because doubt can cause our blessings to be delayed, but Jesus said that
if we have faith the size of a mustard seed, it can move mountains. Whatever
you may be trusting God for, do not allow the seeds of doubt to fester in your
mind. Will you trust Him today? Something to ponder…
2 KINGS
MOMENT – (23APR19) The Shunammite woman, whose son Elisha had raised from the
dead, had left the land along with her family as directed by Elisha because there
was going to be a severe famine for seven years. Upon her return, she went to
the king to appeal for her land to be returned to her. Prior to her arrival,
Elisha’s servant had been telling the king about the lady and the miracle the
Lord had done through Elisha to restore her son back to life. When she walked
in, Elisha’s servant told the king that she was the woman that he had been
speaking of. The woman confirmed to story to the king. The king then assigned
an official to the case and not only did she get her property back, but she got
back all the income that was earned from it during the time that she was away.
Similarly, God
is working things out on our behalf long before we ever know that they are in
need of working. The woman had no idea that God was actively handling her case
with the king before she arrived. By the servant telling the king her story,
the foundation of favor was already being set and she was blessed tremendously.
We can too take courage that God knew long before a situation arose in our life
that it was going to require fixing. All He expects is for us to come to Him in
faith, believe, and He will handle the rest. Something to ponder…
