The Narcissistic Jezebel
Spirit
Revelation
2:20 But I have
this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a
prophetess and is teaching and seducing my servants to practice sexual
immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols. (ESV)
Jezebel is the most
well-known female narcissist of the Bible. King Ahab, her husband, displayed
narcissistic traits, but was a co-dependent and enabler. Jezebel was the
daughter of the king of Tyre, Ethbaal. Therefore, she was a princess prior to
becoming queen and was known to be a priestess of the god, Baal. She enticed
King Ahab to turn from the God of Israel and to worship her foreign gods, Baal
and Asherah instead, in which she had 450 priests dedicated to Baal and 400 to
Asherah. Jezebel was a very evil woman in that she had many of the prophets of
God killed and she orchestrated the death of an innocent man to take what did
not belong to her. She took no responsibility for her evil deeds and her pride
remained unfailing till the very end when she met an untimely death. Jesus, so
despised her wickedness, rebuked the churches for allowing her spirit to enter
in their midst during John’s time on the Isle of Patmos. Let’s break down the
narcissistic traits of this wicked woman, so that you will be able to discern a
Narcissistic Jezebel spirit.
Let’s go back over the
definition of a narcissist and how it relates to the Jezebel spirit.
Narcissist
– A narcissist (Narc) is a person who has a grandiose view of themselves and
their abilities. They are very self-centered and often camouflage their insecurities
with the need to receive attention and admiration from others. They do not
empathize with the feelings and needs of other peoples, but use deceptive acts
of kindness for selfish gain, manipulation, and in so doing get their supply.
They never see themselves as having done harm to anyone, but will often play
the victim by shaming the real victim into guilt for the mere mention of their
bad behavior – as a result, causing narcissistic injury.
Overview of the Narcissist Jezebel
a.)
Jezebel had an over-inflated ego. She had a
grandiose view of herself and her abilities in that she desired to be
worshiped, for she was a representative of Baal. Even though Baal could not
bring rain, create life, nor grant prosperity, she led her followers to believe
that he could and this is why there was a showdown between the priests of Baal
and the prophet Elijah. This is similar to Lucifer who dared to think that he
could be God even though he did not and still can never be omnipresent nor
create anything but misery and chaos. Isaiah
14:13-14 “For you
said to yourself, ‘I will ascend to heaven and set my throne above God’s stars.
I will preside on the mountain of the gods far away in the north. I will climb
to the highest heavens and be like the Most High.’ ” (NLT) Narcs’ grandiose view of themselves and their
abilities are wrapped up in a package of deceit, which is of the worst kind
when they deceive not only others but themselves.
b.)
Jezebel desired to have followers and anyone who
did not grant her the attention she so wanted was put to the sword. She along
with her Baal worship was in direct contrast to the things of God and
therefore, those who chose to remain loyal to God and free of her idolatry was
considered as a threat. 1 Kings 18:4 While Jezebel was killing off the LORD's prophets,
Obadiah had taken a hundred prophets and hidden them in two caves, fifty in
each, and had supplied them with food and water. (NIV) This type
of narcissistic behavior is found in a lot of churches and often causes spiritual
harm to the body of Christ. There are many Narcs in the church who want to have
positions of authority not to serve God, but to rule over others. 1 Peter 5:2-3
Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not
grudgingly—not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to
serve God. (3)Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care,
but lead them by your own good example.(NLT) Then there are
those who are already in authority who misuse and abuse it by making others
feel as if they have a monopoly on God. Therefore, you may hear such things as,
“If you leave my church, you will not be blessed,” or “You need to stop church
hopping and put your name on this row.” We are all one body in Christ and
therefore, we do not belong to any earthly man, but the One True Holy God.
c.)
Jezebel did not empathize with the needs nor
respected the boundaries of others. Rules did not apply to her – or so she
thought. Therefore, to tell her to obey the commandments of God was considered
as treachery in her mind’s view.
Psalm
28:9 If one turns
away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination. (ESV) Narcs do not like rules and boundaries. They
think and act as if regulations apply to everyone else but them. When people
finally have had enough of the Narc’s nonsense and decide to establish rules of
engagement for the Narc to follow, they will buck against them in defiance in
an attempt to make the victim or co-dependent cave in. Proverbs
16:32 Better to be
patient than powerful; better to have self-control than to conquer a city.
(NLT)
d.)
Jezebel never took responsibility for her wrongs
because she had a heart full of pride, arrogance, greed, idolatry,
vengefulness, and wickedness. Proverbs
16:18-19 Pride goes
before destruction,
and
haughtiness before a fall. Better to live humbly with the poor than to share
plunder with the proud. (NLT) Narcs never take responsibility
for anything. They will always find someone else to blame for either their
problems or what they do to someone else. They often cause harm to other people
in various ways, but when confronted, will have the recipient of the abuse
feeling as if they are the one doing the abuse. The Jezebel Narc plays the
victim well. They are able to fool many people with their ability to portray
the innocent, loving, giving, and admirable traits that most people have grown
to love and respect. Unfortunately, with a Narc, what you see is only an
illusion. 2 Corinthians 11:14-15 But I am not surprised! Even Satan disguises himself
as an angel of light. So it is no wonder that his servants also disguise
themselves as servants of righteousness. In the end they will get the
punishment their wicked deeds deserve. (NLT)
Attributes of Jezebel and her
co-dependent husband, Ahab.
1.) Ahab and Jezebel’s union should have never taken
place.
The Israelites had
been told by God to never intermarry with the heathen nations. To do so would
have compromised their reverence for God and bring about judgment and despair.
Therefore, when King Ahab married Jezebel, he knew that what he had done was against
the ordinances of God. He aligned himself with evil and therefore, his sinful
traits became embellished by having a wicked woman as a wife. 1 Kings 11:1-3
Now King Solomon loved many foreign women. Besides Pharaoh’s daughter, he
married women from Moab, Ammon, Edom, Sidon, and from among the Hittites. 2The
Lord had clearly instructed the people of Israel, “You must not marry them,
because they will turn your hearts to their gods.” Yet Solomon insisted on
loving them anyway. 3He had 700 wives of royal birth and 300
concubines. And in fact, they did turn his heart away from the Lord. (NLT)
Many people get into relationships that are toxic from
the very beginning. Their chosen partner may not have a heart for God and as a
result, there cannot be love for another person in the real sense of the word
apart from who God is. Amos 3:3 Can two people walk together without agreeing on the
direction? (NLT) Some men marry women due to lust and having the
“white knight syndrome” thinking love can save all, while the alarms are going
off letting them know that their choice of a partner will have undesired
results. Jeremiah 13:23 Can an Ethiopian change his skin or a leopard its
spots? Neither can you do good who are accustomed to doing evil. (NIV)
Likewise, some women ignore obvious warning signs of narcissistic partners for
the fear of being alone and thinking that they can change that person by love
alone. They often find themselves being entangled in a web that they quite
often have a tough time escaping from if they ever do. Proverbs
16:25 There is a
way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. (ESV)
2.) Jezebel worshiped idols and incited Ahab to do the
same.
Jezebel was
unempathetic with Ahab’s background and beliefs that he should have had in
regard to staying faithful to his God. It was all about what she wanted and
what would appease her idolatrous ways. The reason that God did not want the
Children of Israel to intermarry with foreign nations was because their hearts
would be turned away from Him. As we can see all throughout Israel’s history,
that’s exactly what happened repeatedly. Israel indulged themselves with Baal
worship that involved acts of sexual immorality, child sacrifices, building
shrines and altars, and food offerings that displeased God. Jeremiah 19:4-5
For they have forsaken me and made this a place of foreign gods; they have
burned incense in it to gods that neither they nor their ancestors nor the
kings of Judah ever knew, and they have filled this place with the blood of the
innocent. 5They have built the high places of Baal to burn their
children in the fire as offerings to Baal—something I did not command or
mention, nor did it enter my mind. (NLT)
Where God made it
clear that He was the only one to be worshiped, Baal worship required that one
dishonor and reject the One True God; therefore, bringing a curse upon
themselves. Exodus 20:3-5 “You must not have any other god but me. 4You
must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the
heavens or on the earth or in the sea. 5You must not bow down to
them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not
tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon
their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and
fourth generations of those who reject me.” (NLT)
Where God said,
“Thou shall not commit adultery,” and that homosexuality and other sexually
immoral practices were wrong, Baal said, “Have as much sex and whatever kind of
sex you so choose.” As a result, judgment was declared by God. Unfortunately,
Ahab knew better, but he allowed his codependency to get in the way of obeying
God. Numbers 25:1-3
While the Israelites were camped at Acacia Grove, some of the men defiled
themselves by having sexual relations with local Moabite women. 2These
women invited them to attend sacrifices to their gods, so the Israelites
feasted with them and worshiped the gods of Moab. 3In this way,
Israel joined in the worship of Baal of Peor, causing the Lord’s anger to blaze
against his people. (NLT)
Codependent – A codependent is a person who does not love themselves
independent of the beliefs and opinions of others. They attempt to please and
appease the needs and demands of the narcissist in their life at their own
expense of happiness. Whereas selfless acts of kindness to help others is a
commendable trait to have, the codependent becomes the ultimate sacrifice in
doing such acts with regards to the narcissist. The narcissist does not truly
appreciate the codependent’s self-sacrifice upon their altar, for nothing is
truly enough for a narcissist. If the codependent were to ever stop giving
narcissist their supply, the codependent would receive the knife upon the altar
of which they have lain. We will discuss codependency in more details in the
next chapter.
4.) Jezebel is very controlling and as a wife will run over
the husband; that same
spirit working within a
male, will be domineering
towards his wife.
Jezebel tends to
wear the pants in the household. She does not allow for the husband to be the
priest of the home because it conflicts with her desire to rule over him. She
will argue, fuss, fight, and belittle her husband for even trying to establish
order in the home. Proverbs 21:19 It's better to live alone in the desert than with a
quarrelsome, complaining wife. (NLT) She is very combative
verbally and will wear the husband down until he gives in to her unrealistic
demands. She does not desire to communicate in the relationship, but to
manipulate.
Jezebel
will bait her husband into an argument just out of pure boredom and her lack of
self-fulfillment. Proverbs 21:9 It is better to live in a corner of the housetop than
in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife. (ESV) She disrupts
any peace that may be in the home. Once she has accomplished her goals, she
will set back and enjoy the ride, while her husband is left frustrated and
scratching his head as to what just took place.
Jezebel
does not like the word “submission” and to expect her to submit is like asking
a dog not to bark. It is only on her terms that she will submit to anything.
You can ensure that when she does play the submissive wife, it is due to her
getting something out of the deal because Jezebel is all about herself. 1 Peter 3:1-2
Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not
obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives,
when they see your respectful and pure conduct. (ESV)
Jezebel
also seeks to control her adult children. She does not desire for them to be
independent of her. She considers them as an extension of herself; therefore,
in their desire to want a life of their own – it will be met with remarks of
shame, guilt, and a sense of obligation to remain within her solitary
confinement at Alcatraz. Their accomplishments in life are never of their own
doing – at least in her mind. She will seek to take acknowledgement for
something that she has no direct claim to. For example, she will credit
teaching her children their ABC’s for their success in getting a doctorate
degree. After all, she took the classes, wrote the papers, past the tests, and
defended their thesis. How dare you not give her your diploma and tassel? 2 Corinthians 10:15 Neither do we go beyond our limits by boasting of
work done by others. Our hope is that, as your faith continues to grow, our
sphere of activity among you will greatly expand. (NIV)
Whomever
Jezebel has deemed as the scapegoat of the children will receive brutal abuse
verbally and emotionally. She will degrade them for not wanting to be an
extension of herself and for having ideas of their own. She will make them
think that they owe her something just because she birthed them into the world.
She will always blame the scapegoat for whatever problems that she and/or
others in the family have. If the adult child decides to disengage from her
abuse, she will defame them by having others think that they are uncaring and
unloving when it fact, it is the other way around. Ephesians
6:4 Fathers, do
not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring
them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord. (NLT) Jezebel produces other narcissistic children
as well, which was the case with her daughter, the wicked Queen Athaliah, who
decided to kill her remaining family members once she came to power to
eliminate any competition to her throne. 2 Kings
11:1 When
Athaliah, the mother of King Ahaziah of Judah, learned that her son was dead,
she began to destroy the rest of the royal family. (NLT)
5.) Ahab defied God by having the walls of Jericho rebuilt
and therefore, as
part of idol worship and the curse that Joshua pronounced over anyone who would
rebuild Jericho’s walls, his builder’s first and last-born sons had to be
sacrificed. 1 Kings 16:34 In Ahab's time, Hiel of Bethel rebuilt Jericho. He
laid its foundations at the cost of his firstborn son Abiram, and he set up its
gates at the cost of his youngest son Segub, in accordance with the word of the
LORD spoken by Joshua son of Nun. (NIV)
Ahab’s narcissist
side came out with him knowing the history concerning the walls of Jericho
falling and that anyone who even attempted to rebuild them would pay dearly at
the expense of their children’s lives. He, however, did not care about the
person who had to do the building nor about God. Joshua
6:26 At that time
Joshua pronounced this solemn oath: "Cursed before the LORD is the one who
undertakes to rebuild this city, Jericho: "At the cost of his firstborn
son he will lay its foundations; at the cost of his youngest he will set up its
gates." (NIV)
Narcissists do not empathize with the
feelings and needs of others. Therefore, they will do things that not only will
hurt others, but will have no remorse as long as it gets them their desired
results. No one else’s feelings matter in the eyes of a narcissist except their
own. Their feelings and wants take top priority over everyone else and if that
means walking over someone to get where they need to go – so be it. Proverbs 10:9
Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked
will be found out. (ESV)
6.) Jezebel considered herself to be religious, but her
doctrine was false.
As
a priestess of Baal, Jezebel considered her gods to be superior to the Lord
above. She had such a hatred for the things of God that she killed many of
God’s prophets. Jezebel despised authority and anyone who would set boundaries
that she had to follow would be eliminated. 1
Kings 18:4 While
Jezebel was killing off the LORD's prophets, Obadiah had taken a hundred prophets
and hidden them in two caves, fifty in each, and had supplied them with food
and water. (NIV)
Narcissists do not
like boundaries and therefore, anyone who tries to place restrictions on them
as to how the narcissist is to act and/or how they are to treat others will
face brutal opposition and backlash. For example, if a spouse tells their
narcissist that bills must be paid before going on a shopping spree, the
narcissist will rip the spouse’s character apart and demean them for not
bringing in enough money. If an adult child of a narcissist demands to be
treated with respect, the narcissistic parent will declare their right to
disregard such notions because parental rights supersede the adult child’s need
for respect.
7.) The prophet, Elijah, was King Ahab and Queen
Jezebel’s scapegoat because
they refused to
acknowledge that their sins
brought about undesired
consequences from God.
God withheld rain for three years
because of the idolatry that was taking place under the leadership of King Ahab
and Queen Jezebel. This was to let them know that He alone was God and that
their gods, Baal and Asherah, could do not for them. Both Ahab and Jezebel did
not view their disobedience as the cause for the drought upon the land, but
rather placed the blame upon Elijah with whom they considered to be a thorn in
their side. 1 Kings 18:16-18 So Obadiah went to meet Ahab and told him, and Ahab
went to meet Elijah. 17When he saw Elijah, he said to him, “Is that
you, you troubler of Israel?” 18“I have not made trouble for
Israel,” Elijah replied. “But you and your father’s family have. You have
abandoned the Lord’s commands and have followed the Baals. (NIV)
Narcissist never take responsibility
for their actions or the harm that they inflict upon others. They will always
find a way to blame others for their bad behavior. Therefore, it does little
good to confront a narcissist about their actions because you will find that
they will never admit to anything. They will always make an excuse as to why
they acted in a certain manner and will oftentimes blame you for what they did.
They are master chess players when it comes to mind games and will have you
confused and second-guessing yourself when they are done with you. You cannot
change what you never admit to. Therefore, the one who is victimized by a
narcissist should not expect for them to be repentant of anything. In the
narcissist mind, they do no wrong. The faster the one victimized by their
behavior can accept this unfortunate reality, the sooner healing and recovery
can begin.
8.) Jezebel will have you doubting yourself and will bring
about feelings of
depression, despair, and loneliness.
We see that in the case of Elijah, he had just gone toe to toe with
Jezebel’s idolatrous priests. Yet, he was brought down to feelings of despair
and hopelessness due to her threats of wanting to take his life. 1 Kings 19:4
Then he went on alone into the wilderness, traveling all day. He sat down under
a solitary broom tree and prayed that he might die. "I have had enough,
LORD," he said. "Take my life, for I am no better than my ancestors
who have already died." (NLT)
Jezebels can have the most successful person feel as
if their accomplishments mean nothing. They know how to prick at the very
sensitive part of an individual to bring them down to the lowest of lows. Revelation 12:10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: "Now
have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the
authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who
accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. (NIV)
In order to do battle with Jezebel, you need to know who you are in God.
Jezebels love to have you in isolation where you are at your weakest. They do
not want others to be around to support you and will therefore, try to move you
away from those who can see through their demonic behavior and offer you
support spiritually, emotionally, and even physically. They want you to have no
one else to lean on but them and when they are able to isolate you, they can
abuse and misuse you any way they like because they know that there is no one
to come to your rescue. They are happy if you lose friends, family, and/or
other loved ones because this plays into their net of control.
9.) Jezebel seeks to destroy to the prophets of God and
those who serve Him.
Jezebels aim to bring down the servants of God. They do not want people
to have a relationship with God for themselves, but they seek to have
individuals come to them as if they are the mediator between God and
themselves. This is called Self Worship. 1 Kings
18:13 Haven't you
heard, my lord, what I did while Jezebel was killing the prophets of the LORD?
I hid a hundred of the LORD's prophets in two caves, fifty in each, and
supplied them with food and water. (NIV)
Jezebels may have a gift for the prophetic that they
will use to manipulate others into doing their bidding. They hold individuals
spiritually captive in that they do not encourage nor allow for the people of
God to have a personal relationship with Him for themselves because if they do,
people will begin to see through the Jezebels’ acts of spiritual manipulation.
Remember, Jezebels are all about control and therefore, you will find this
spirit even in leaders within the body of Christ. You may hear things such as:
“You
can only get prayers answered if you go through me.”
“If
you leave my church, you will be cursed.”
“Should
you not do as I say, the hand of God will come down on you.”
“The
only way that you can get blessed is if the blessings come through me first.”
These are just a few ways that Jezebels use spiritual
manipulation to control their victims. To go a step further, this is a form of
witchcraft and sorcery. Also, if you are in leadership, Jezebels will try to
point out every fault that you may possess in order to have you to doubt your
calling into ministry. They will throw up your ministry in any argument as a
way to gain power over you and have you to cave-in to their distortions.
10.) With Jezebel, you have no rights to be an individual or
to have a separate
identity apart from hers.
Jezebels aim to
control at all cost. She never submits to anyone, but everyone is expected to
submit to her. In Jezebel’s mind, she is the center of the universe and
everyone else is just an extension of who she is. You are not allowed to be a
free-thinker and move independently of Jezebel. You owe everything that you are
to Jezebel.
The narcissist has a sense of entitlement. They make
others feel as if the world owes them something for what they failed to get in
life or if they have received recognition in the past, they think that everyone
should continue to bow to their royal highness. They feel that they are special
and that they are deserving of things even if they did nothing to earn them. If
the narcissist parents did not provide for them, the spouse of the narcissist
will be obligated to provide everything for the narcissist. If the narcissist
did not receive love as a child, the narcissist’s children will be expected to
show their undying love in ways that are often unrealistic and impossible to
accomplish.
11.) Jezebel will use her flying monkeys to do her evil
bidding. Micah 2:1-2
Woe to those who plan iniquity,
to those who plot evil on
their beds! At morning’s light
they carry it out because it is in their power to do it.
2They covet fields and seize them, and houses, and take
them. They defraud people of their homes, they rob them
of their inheritance. (NLT)
Jezebel, in a wicked
attempt to get the farmer
Naboth’s land, that her
husband coveted, she had
scoundrels to
falsely accuse Naboth of blaspheming God and the king. She knew that this would
incite the people’s anger and would justify their killing of him in order to
eliminate her husband’s hindrance to getting what he desperately desired. 1 Kings 21:8-10
So she wrote letters in Ahab’s name, placed his seal on them, and sent them to
the elders and nobles who lived in Naboth’s city with him. 9In those
letters she wrote: “Proclaim a day of fasting and seat Naboth in a prominent
place among the people. 10But seat two scoundrels opposite him and
have them bring charges that he has cursed both God and the king. Then take him
out and stone him to death.” (NLT)
Narcissist will use “flying monkeys” to do their
bidding to get their desired results. For example, a person who may be trying
to break free of the narcissist control can sometimes expect friends and loved
ones of the narcissist to pressure them into remaining in contact with the
narcissist. Even if the victim explains to them the situation, they are so
entangled into the deceptive web of the narcissist that they will not hear
and/or understand from the viewpoint of the victim and will therefore, try to
convince the victim that they are wrong in going no contact with the
narcissist.
The narcissist is all too happy to have their flying
monkeys act on their behalf because if frees them of any responsibility to have
the victim crawl back into their web as a sign of defeat. The narcissist does
not care about the victim, but only cares about the image that it portrays when
the victim is no longer a part of their manipulative mind control.
12.) Jezebel is a friend to no one, but has many friends and
acts of kindness are
really disguised gifts of
manipulation.
Jezebel declared a
fast because she knew that the Children of Israel were used to the idea of
fasting and that this way, she could easily set her plan into motion to kill
the farmer, Naboth. She had Naboth to be given a temporary place of honor in
order to set him up for the kill. Naboth, blindly walked into her trap and met
his demise.
Narcissists will often look like the most giving
people on the planet. They are normally the ones that others see as living a
life of selflessness. They may be your teachers, peace officers, coaches, and
other areas where service is provided for the needs of others. This is how they
often deceive the masses because their outward works tend to camouflage their
inward character.
Narcissist do not give just for the sake of kindness,
but their gift-giving is just another way to control and manipulate others. For
example, a narcissist may help a person who has just been burnt out of their
home by providing money, food, clothes, and shelter. Although it looks
admirable, the narcissist is expecting the person to be loyal to them for life
and to give them praise and admiration for their act of kindness; therefore, providing the narcissist with a fresh
source of narcissistic supply (self-gratification, respect, and appreciation).
The act of kindness was not for the individual who was the recipient of the
act, but solely for the narcissist. The difference between one giving from the
heart and giving for selfish motives is that the giver of the heart will never
use it for manipulation, but the giver for self will always throw their gifts
up in your face.
13.) Jezebel will reverse the role of the victim onto herself
when in actuality, she is
the one doing the victimizing.
When Jezebel was
about to meet her demise, she made accusations of Jehu in regard to being a
traitor. However, she failed to make mention of the fact that she had killed
innocent people and that her reign was one of pure evil and vindictiveness
against the servants of God.
Narcissists are good at playing the victim’s card.
They will make you feel as if you have wronged them when you mention their bad
behavior. They will accuse you of being a troublemaker, trying to put them
down, causing chaos and confusion, exaggerating events, and/or holding on to
grudges. They will also blame you for something that you may have done in the
past to excuse their present behavior. For example, the narcissist may have
spoken to their spouse in a harsh tone needlessly, but when confronted about
it, the narcissist will excuse their bad behavior with their spouse
overspending on the groceries 5 years ago. Another example is the adult child
may confront their narcissistic parent about their need to always put them
down, but the narcissist will contribute it to the child taking the car for an
unauthorized spin as a teenager. With narcissists, all logic gets thrown out of
the window.
14.) Jezebel is all about her outward persona rather than
inward attributes. 2 Kings 9:30
Then Jehu went to
Jezreel. When Jezebel heard about it, she put on eye
makeup, arranged her hair and looked out of a window. 31
As Jehu entered the gate, she asked, “Have you come in
peace, you Zimri, you murderer of your master?” (NLT)
Prior to Jezebel
falling to her death, she made her face ready for she probably knew that she
was going to be killed by Jehu, the newly anointed king of Israel. Therefore,
she was going to go down looking as a queen and priestess of Baal. Many believe
that Jezebel fixed her face up as a means for seduction, and even if that were
partly true, there is another aspect to look at. Narcissists are concerned more
with how others view them over what harm they have done to their victims.
Therefore, Jezebel was concerned about her self-image above all else. Her
putting on her makeup and readying herself for whatever came was her final act
of defiance against God and those who were servants of His. This moves to the
final point.
15.) Jezebel does not have a heart of humility. Therefore,
expecting to receive a
sincere apology or for her to
change is not likely to
happen. You cannot change
what you never admit.
Jezebel was determined to the end that she was not
going to repent of her wicked ways. Instead of humbling herself, she remained
proud, arrogant, and unrepentant. She fixed herself up as if to say, “You may
kill me, but I will never be defeated.”
Pride always come before the fall and that is literally what took place
with Jezebel. She did her last act of pride before she was thrown out of a
window and given as food to the dogs. What remained of her was only her skull,
hands, and feet.
Skull- Devised wicked
schemes.
Hands – The blood of the
prophets were on her hands.
Feet – Where quick in
running to do evil.
