1 SAMUEL MOMENT – (02APR19) David did not have anything to
eat, for he was still fleeing from Saul, so he went to the Priest Ahimelek and
asked for food. David was not forthcoming with the priest about the situation
with Saul and made up a story as to why he was there, but when asked if he had
consecrated himself by not sleeping with any women, David was truthfully able
to say yes. Therefore, the priest gave David the consecrated bread that had
been taken from the Lord’s altar and he allowed him to take Goliath’s sword.
The priests were the only ones who were supposed to eat the consecrated bread,
but God did not curse David for this. God saw that David had a need and allowed
him to eat the priest’s food to meet that need. There are times when we must
put the needs of others before tradition. Many Christians will pass up a
homeless person, who is in major need, on their way to church only to put their
tithes and offerings into an offering plate. Yet, the Bible tells us to help
those who are sick, widowed, orphaned and in need. When we give to God, we are
also doing so by supplying the needs of those who are unable to do for
themselves. The Apostles set an example when they collected money from the
church to help those who had a need in their midst. “There were no needy ones
among them, because those who owned lands or houses would sell their property,
bring the proceeds from the sales, and
lay
them at the apostles’ feet for
distribution to anyone as he
had need,” (Acts 4:34-35). There is nothing wrong with
giving to the house of God for support, but we must be mindful that God is
coming after the people and not the building. Many pastors are living in access
while the very churches they shepherd have unmet needs. Therefore, if you have
set aside money for the Lord and see a fellow brother or sister in need, you
are giving unto God when you meet that need. "The King will reply,
'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and
sisters of mine, you did for me,' ” (Matthew 25:40). Something to ponder…
QUESTION OF THE DAY – (02APR19) Saul was determined to kill
David and he did not care what he had to do to accomplish his mission. He found
out that the priest, Ahimelek, had given David food and Goliath’s sword, due to
one of his officials seeing David. Saul had lost all reason concerning the
things of God and had his official, Doeg, an Edomite, kill the priest, the
other serving priests, and the whole town where they and their families lived.
This was done in revenge and as a message to anyone who would dare to help
David in any sort of way. The case could be made that Saul’s real anger was
towards God because He had left him and chosen another. Yet, Saul had only
himself to blame and killing David was not going to change that. Have you
noticed that we are seeing an increase in the enemies of God coming against the
saints of God? In Nigeria, Christians are being slaughtered by the masses. In
China, Christian churches are being torn down, their tithes and offerings taken
by government officials, the children are banned from attending services, and
Christians are being thrown into prison just for serving Jesus. America is
encountering an increased hatred for Christianity as well when the media thinks
it is necessary to count how many times a prayer mentions the name of Jesus,
Christian businesses such as Chick-Fil-A are being denied service locations,
wedding bakers and florists are being sued, and pastors in California are being
told that they cannot counsel the sexually confused. The enemies of God hate His
children and the things of Him so they will continue to pursue us in various
ways until Jesus comes to get us. Until then, continue in faith, and endure to
the end as Paul wrote to the early church. Something to ponder…
1 SAMUEL MOMENT – (02APR19) David’s men thought that he
should attack Saul when the opportunity had presented itself. Saul had come
into the cave where David and his men were hiding to relieve himself without
him knowing it. David managed to cut a piece of Saul’s robe, but his conscious
bothered him and he rebuked his men for even mentioning doing harm to Saul. He
refused to touch God’s anointed despite how he was being treated by him. David
did, however, approach Saul and question his behavior towards him in a
respectful manner. There are a lot of men and women of God as well as
politicians who are doing evil in the sight of God and yet, we must be mindful
that God will be the one to render his vengeance on them. Some Christians claim
to dislike our president and feel it necessary to speak words of hate and
contempt towards him, but they would be wise to understand that God allowed for
him to be in office to fulfill his role for the times in which we live. Likewise,
there are many pastors who are wolves in today’s pulpits and yet, God will deal
with them as well for the spiritual harm that they are doing to His flock. We
must speak the truth in accordance to the Word of God, but we must be mindful
that even in speaking the truth, God will be the one to give judgment to those
who are not doing right by Him. Therefore, we are to speak boldly against sin
and corruption, but do so in love, so that we touch not His anointed. Something
to ponder…
