1 SAMUEL MOMENT – (03APR19) Nabal was a fool. That’s what
his name meant and was explained as such when Abigail, his wife went to David
to make peace over how her husband treated him. She was told of how kind David
and his men had been to Nabal’s servants and the hurling insults that came from
her husband’s mouth. Now, she had to be the mediator to stand in between David’s
sword and her husband’s foolishness. Her wisdom worked and David cancelled his
plans to enact revenge on Nabal. Sometimes, we as Christians have to be the
mediator just as Abigail was. We have to stand in the gap for those who are
foolish and unwise to the things of Christ. We do this by intercession in our
prayers before the throne of Grace. We intercede by praying for those who are
lost and have not come to the knowledge of who Christ is. We also are to
intercede for our fellow brothers and sisters who are struggling, being
persecuted, or battling extreme spiritual warfare. It is our job to be our
brothers’ keeper and the best way that we can do that is through prayer. The
Bible says that the prayer of the righteous avails much. Our prayers matter to
God and He works on our behalf. When you know of someone who needs help, stop
to pray for, and even with them. Sometimes people may ask you to pray for them,
but you fail to do it because you get busy and forget. But that one prayer may
make all the difference in the world to someone who is in need of being
delivered. Never tell someone that you will pray for them and fail to do it.
Even if it is a quick “Lord please help them in Jesus’ name” in your mind, do
it right there on the spot because we are to be mediators and ambassadors for
Christ. Something to ponder…
QUESTION OF THE DAY – (03APR19) Saul came after David again
to try to kill him. He mustered 3,000 troops to hunt down a man who had done
nothing to him. Yet, when David had the opportunity to kill him once more, he
refused to lay a hand on God’s anointed. He took his water jug and spear
instead, only to return it later, after he let Saul know that he could have
easily taken his life. Have you ever had someone who was determined to see your
demise? Did they stop at nothing to try to make you be seen in a bad light?
Many Christians are encountering spiritual warfare from the enemy of darkness by
way of family dysfunction, workplace annoyance, relationship troubles, rebellious
children, financial troubles, health issues and more. The enemy is threatened
by their anointing as Saul was in hopes to cancel their assignment. The devil
knows that when we come into the plans that God has for us, we are a threat to his
kingdom. But just as David remained honorable before the Lord, we are not to
allow the enemy to make us compromise who we are in Christ. We are to fight the
good fight of faith because those who endure to the end will receive a crown of
Life. Something to ponder…
1 SAMUEL MOMENT – (03APR19) David decided that he was better
off going into the enemies’ camp than to stay inside Israel because Saul
continued to pursue him. David knew that if Saul found out that he was in enemy
territory, he would back off and not try to pursue him there. David’s plan
worked, but there was one problem. Achish had given David territory in Gath and
trusted David because he felt that he could benefit by David’s unfortunate situation.
He thought that David would be in servitude to him for life. We as Christians must
be careful trying to go into the enemy’s camp. The enemy is always looking for
a way to have us enslaved to sin just as Achish thought he had a lifelong
servant in David. For some, one drink will push them back into the sin of alcoholism.
For others, one smoke will entice them to restart their former routine of a
pack-a-day. For the porn addict, it only takes one website to have them spiral
down into sexual immorality again. For the gambler, it only takes the purchase
of one ticket to have them back at the poker table or slot machine. For the
adulterer, it only takes one emotional affair to lead to a physical affair. The
devil is very cunning and will have you thinking that you are safe on enemy
ground due to another situation that you are trying to escape, but be careful.
Whereas a person may take a drink due to the lost of a loved one, have an affair
to escape the loneliness, or have a night at the club due to boredom and
stress, that temporary pleasure may have a long-lasting negative effect that
will take you away from God. Something to ponder…
