JOB MOMENT – (12JUN19) The Lord started to speak after Elihu
had completed his speech. There is no further mention of Elihu, and he mysteriously
disappears from the chapters just as he suddenly materializes in the texts. Biblical
scholars have a number of hypothesis as to the author’s lack of information
regarding this, but there is no certainty as to when he arrived other than to
hear the speeches of his friends, and that he was not present at the end.
Therefore, where Elihu ends, the Lord begins.
The Lord poses a number of questions to Job regarding his
whereabouts when the earth was created. The Lord goes into details as to how He
measured the earth’s dimensions, laid its foundation, placed the sea perfectly
in place, and gave orders for the dawn to be in position. God went on to make
it known that He alone was in control of the weather and its elements and
placed the constellations in the sky. He
gave wisdom to the ibis and rooster as well as provided food for the lioness
and the raven. Job, in what he may have thought was his wisdom, was not able to
compare with that of the Lord’s, for the Lord has dominion over the earth.
God was letting Job know that he was just a mere man, but He
alone was God. He was too small to compare to His greatness and could not begin
to know the mind of Him. We sometimes can be like Job where we dare to
challenge the Almighty. We feel as if He owes us something, but God is the
Creator of all things and He does not have to answer to anyone. He does us the
honor of giving us what we ask for, but He is not obligated to answer a charge
against His vast might and character. When we go through things, we may ask God
the question of why. Then God has a way of simply letting us know that if for
no other reason, it is because He alone is GOD. Something to ponder…
QUESTION OF THE DAY – (12JUN19) Have you ever been like Job
where you alluded to God being unfair? Did you want God to present His case to
you, so that you could prove that you did not deserve the misfortune that
happened to you? Did you have your righteous list as Job did where you could check
off all the good that you had done? Sometimes, we mistakenly believe that if we
are “good” enough that we can avoid the evil that takes place in this world.
Well, we as Christians must understand that when we truly live for Christ, we
become the enemy’s number one target. It is like having a bullseye on your
back. The devil takes aim because it attracts his attention for those who are
truly serving God. He is less concerned about those whom he already has and
more concerned about those he doesn’t. Why is that? The enemy fears our
witness; therefore, if we are able to help usher souls to Christ, there will be
less souls for him.
Satan knows that he is like the Titanic and his time is
running out before he completely sinks. So, he is going to make the most of the
time that he has left by taking every soul that he can with him. In order to
defeat the enemy, you must know the enemy and his tactics. This is the game of Life
and Satan desires to be in the driver’s seat. All Christians are moving targets
that he wishes to demobilize by running them over. If he is successful, he
prevents them from taking his pieces, but if they remain standing, he runs the
risk of losing ground. This is why the Bible tells us to put on the whole armor
of God. We cannot keep the enemy from coming, but we can definitely slow him
down because the battle has already been won. Something to ponder…
JOB MOMENT – (12JUN19) The Lord tells Job about the animals
and how He watches over them and provides them with food. He specifically
mentions the ostrich that lays her eggs in the sand with no regard as to their
protection. She does not safeguard her eggs from being stepped on nor taken by
prey. All the work that she did during labor becomes fruitless because God did
not give her a lot of wisdom and plain old common sense.
We can sometimes be like the ostrich when it comes to our
spiritual life and our relationship with God. We may do righteous things as Job
did, but if we do not safeguard our heart, mind, and soul when adversity hits,
we too will become crushed as ostrich eggs that were not safeguarded from harm.
Whereas the ostrich lacks wisdom and understanding, we can have both through
the leading of the Holy Spirit. All we have to do is just ask. Does that mean
that we will have the answers to all life’s problems? No! To do so would be
having the mind of God for which, it is too great for us to comprehend. Yet,
the Holy Spirit endows the believer with everything that we need to make it on
our Christian journey and although the devil may present obstacles to slow us
down, we will never be stopped completely because the Lord is present even in
His silence. Something to ponder….
