To the FOOD BINGER,
the Potter Loves You
Proverbs 23:1-2 When you sit to dine with a ruler, note well what is before
you, and put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony. (NIV)
When God created the
world, He made a garden that was full of life and splendor. In this garden,
there were trees of every kind that had all sorts of delicious delights. Fruits,
plants, herbs, and other edibles were in the garden called Eden, so that Adam
and Eve could freely indulge. Genesis 1:29 Then God said, “I give
you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that
has fruit with seed in it. They will be ours for food. (NIV) There was only one tree, however,
from which God did not want them to eat and that was the Tree of Knowledge,
which fruit contained both good and evil. This tree no doubt was appealing
because it was off limits. The very thought of it being the only tree that God had
forbidden them to eat from was the very instrument that the devil used to
destroy mankind. Many people have contributed the appetite as the only cause of
man’s fall, but in actuality, it may have been more of the appeal for the forbidden rather than the appetite within itself
that caused man to defy God. Genesis 3:6 When the woman saw that
the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also
desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to
her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. (NIV)
The forbidden is
still that same temptation that the devil uses today. Yes, we are allowed to
have any and everything, but the things that we know are not good for us, or
should we classify as forbidden, is often
more appealing to us than what is best for us. Let’s use the example of eating
a piece of cake in comparison to eating a piece of fruit. The cake for many is
forbidden because it is likely to pack on the pounds, increase our sugar gauge,
have us crave for more, and in some cases, make us lethargic once the sugar
rush has declined.
On the contrast, the
piece of fruit would be a great calorie reduction, minimize our sugar gauge,
may not contribute to the desire to over indulge, and would promote energy and
cell nutrition. Nevertheless, if offered a slice of cake on a plate and a
sliced apple on the other, many of us would take the forbidden over the healthier permissible option. You may ask, “Why
is that?” Well, the forbidden is quite
often tastier than the healthier permissible option. 1 Corinthians 10:23 “I
have the right to do anything,” you say – but not everything is beneficial. “I
have the right to do anything” – but not everything is constructive.
So, what does the
Potter have to say about this? He desires for us to be in optimal health. 3
John 1:2 Dear Friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all
may go well with you, even as your sous is getting along well. (NIV) If
we are sick, sluggish, suffer from brain clog and the likes, we are not at our
best to be usable vessels for the Kingdom of God. Our bodies are indeed His
temple, but we often fill our temple with poison that keeps it running at an all-time
low. 1
Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy
Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. (NIV)
Just think, what if you went to a place of worship where carbon monoxide was
seeping through the air with no oxygen getting in. Eventually everyone would
drift off to sleep and never awaken because the poison from the gas was killing
them and they were blind-sighted to it. It’s the same way with our bodies.
Many of us are
taking in poisons every day, which is causing our bodies to slow down, send us
to sleep and eventually, may cause us to go to an early grave. Failure to get
the life-sustaining nutrients we need to counteract the poison, as oxygen does
with carbon monoxide, contributes to many people having heart disease, cancer,
infections, viruses, and other health-deteriorating ailments. This is not to
say that a piece of cake will cause all of this to happen, but moderation and
in some extreme cases, total elimination is key. 1 Corinthians 10:31 So whatever
you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. (NIV)
The Potter refers to
himself as the Living Water, not the living soda. Revelation 22:1 Then the
angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing
from the throne of God and of the Lamb. (NIV) At the Potter’s House,
you will not find anything that will bring harm to any of His chosen vessels.
He desires for His children to be in the best health possible; therefore, when
Jesus healed the sick and raised the dead, it was a manifestation of the Potter’s
desire for His children to be well in body, mind and soul. The enemy loves to make
capital gains on our weaknesses, but at the Potter’s House, there is healing,
Spiritual wellness, and emotional stability.
