(BLOG) Love Your Enemies

 

Matthew 5:43-48 "You have heard that is was said, "Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of you Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect." (NIV)

 

Have you ever been around someone who was totally difficult to love? You tried everything that you knew how in order to get along with them, but nothing seemed to work? Well, Jesus had an answer for that. Jesus said that we are to love those who do not love us back. Now, this may be a difficult pill for many to swallow because it is hard to love someone who constantly mistreats you. You may even ask, "Why should I love someone who doesn't reciprocate the same?" The answer is simple! God requires it! 

 

 

Jesus let us know that it is easy to love those who love you, but it is a test to love those who persecute you. After all, is going the extra mile what God does for us on a daily basis? Jesus said that God gives to the ungodly just as He does the Godly. This means that God gives everyone an equal opportunity to accept Him. Why would an unrighteous person choose to be righteous if they never experienced the goodness of God in their lives? Jesus went on to say that there is even a reward in loving your enemies.

 

 

 

So why not try it? You only have Heaven to GAIN in the process. Find that person that is the most difficult in your life and give them a call, send a card, or do something out of the way for them. Even if they don't respond, know that God has taken notice and will reward you for trying.
