Do You Need S.E.X.?

1 Corinthians 11:28 Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. (NIV)

Do you need S.E.X.? Okay, do not have your minds in the gutter. This is truly PG-13 and below. I am not talking about the act of intimacy. I am talking about having a Self- Examining X-ray aka S.E.X. Galatians 6:4"Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else..." (NIV) On any given day, you can go to your local store and see celebrities plastered all over the magazine aisles and newspapers. Social media tends to make a lot of money sharing the latest gossip on what celebrity did what and who they did it with. From selling cars to eating a burger, the media tells you how to do it and when you should. However, as a follower of Christ, we're supposed to do self-examinations and let God be our celebrity role model. This doesn't mean that you can't have someone you admire and aspire to become like. But the ones who are promoting ungodly things, are not the ones to look up to. Just as a doctor may order an x-ray to see things that are not visible to the naked eye, we are to look to Christ as our x-ray technician and evaluate where we are in Him.

Many times, we are looking to the Hollywood image of what we're supposed to be. Therefore, our minds are not focused completely on Christ. Our talk should be different and we should be noticeably set apart from those in the world. Can we have fun, careers, enjoy family and friends while being a Christian? Of course! However, too often, our lines are being crossed and we're not able to distinguish who's following God and who isn't. We should question ourselves to see if we are walking as a representative of The Light. Christians should be role models and not followers of Satan. We must be careful not to fall into the same traps that he has set up for the rest of the world. How do we do this? We must have a daily prayer and study life with God.

This doesn't mean saying, "Jesus wept" at the kitchen table right before you eat a meal. We are to take time daily to study His word and pray. We must also keep God at the center of all we do and say. Do you have to carry a bible around all the time?  No! You are to be a living testament for Christ. It is by the Light, which shines through us, that others can be saved. It is not if we preach well to others, it is if we're actually living the sermon.  However, if we are just going-along to get-along Christians, then what separates us from the worldly norm? Mathews 5:16 says, "...Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." (NIV) Stop! Self-Examine! Let Jesus give you an X-ray so that He can show you how to best live for Him.
