To the ADULTERER, the Potter loves you.

Hebrews 13:4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. (NIV)

           In today’s times, it has become popular to covet what one is not supposed to have. The desire for what is forbidden seems to have the same appeal as it did with Eve in the Garden of Eden. Genesis 3:6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. (NIV) Many movies, television programs, music, books, dating services, and more either endorse and/or promote an adulterous lifestyle. To go a step further, some people get an adrenaline rush just to know that they were able to get away with something that only the active participants know about…or so they think.

            Morals often have often gone down the drain and passions intensify at the thought of having something or being with someone who isn’t theirs. Unfortunately, the desire to have someone else’s spouse for pleasure, sexual satisfaction or to fill a sense of emptiness has caused many innocent people to be hurt, broken, and families to be torn apart. Proverbs 6:32 But a man who commits adultery has no sense; whoever does so destroys himself. (NIV)

            Many adulterers tend to make excuses for their indecent behavior such as:

“I wasn’t happy in my marriage.”

“I was not getting my needs met.”

 “I stayed for the children, so I just had an affair.”

“I was lonely and needed some companionship.”

“I liked the way he/she made me feel.”

However, if you noticed the common denominator with all of them…you will see that they all included or alluded to the word “I.” Sin is often brought on by selfishness because after all, you deserve to be happy at all cost. Right? Sorry, but WRONG! 1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. (NIV) The consequences of unfaithfulness leave an ugly stain and can hurt not only ourselves, but innocent parties.  

            Marriage is to be taken seriously in the eyes of God because it is an example of His faithfulness to us as His bride. God has a desire to be in relationship with His children, but when we are disobedient to Him by not following His righteous ways, we break that covenant. We become adulterous because we have turned our love to another. Nehemiah 1:8 “Remember the instruction you gave your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations…” (NIV) When someone breaks the covenant of marriage, they are not only being unfaithful to their spouse, but they are breaking their covenant between themselves and God. This is why God never intended for us to commit adultery. Exodus 20:14 “You shall not commit adultery.” (NIV)

          We find the story of a woman caught in the act of adultery in the Bible. John 8:3 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group. (NIV) She was brought before Jesus to see if He would pass judgment in accordance to the laws of Moses upon her. The religious leaders of the day were always trying to find a way to entrap Jesus in a desperate attempt to discredit who He was. They thought for certain that they would have Him this time. The religious leaders knew that Jesus spoke about love from the Father and that there was no way that He would tell them to punish her. Stoning was the punishment administered to someone found guilty of such as act. Therefore, they thought that they finally had something they could say that He did wrong. John 8:6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. (NIV)

             Jesus looked at the woman and knelt down without saying a word. This must have agitated the religious leaders because they were waiting for an immediate response. Nevertheless, Jesus just began writing in the dirt. The Bible doesn’t say exactly what Jesus was writing, but it could have been some of their own secret sins. Jesus finally spoke and told them that anyone who was without sin could cast the first stone. John 8:7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” (NIV) This had to surprise the religious leaders because it was not the answer that they were expecting. One by one, however, they began to leave until none were left. The story goes on to say that Jesus forgave the woman of her sins and told her to go and sin no more.

            One can possibly imagine the shame that was felt by the woman. She was brought before countless others and her sin was exposed. The Bible doesn’t mention anything about the man with whom she had the affair with. Sin exposed often leaves you out to dry alone even while having committed it with someone else. Sin aims to disgrace, degrade, humiliate and tarnish the character and reputation of the guilty party. The enemy will have your name run in the mud and only by the blood of Jesus can you be restored. Yet, that’s exactly what He does. The Potter RESTORES. Romans 5:10 For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! (NIV)

            Nothing is ever too bad that you have done where you can’t receive forgiveness if you lay it at the Potter’s feet. He loves you unconditionally and is there to clean up your life and make you whole once again. If you or someone you know have been stained by the sin of adultery, there is cleansing in the blood of the Lamb. All you have to do is visit the Potter’s House. Once you walk in, your life will never be the same. The Potter will take your filthy rags of sin, and dip them in the blood that was shed for you. Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the unforgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace. (NIV) Let go of the sin and allow Him to change your heart today.
