Global Positioning System (GPS) To Get To Heaven
Proverbs 1:8 Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching. (NIV)
Many people use a Global Positioning System (GPS) to
navigate them when driving in unfamiliar territory rather inner city or from
state to state. There is normally a computerized voice that gives verbal
navigational commands so that the driver can keep his/her eyes on the road and
not get lost at the same time. As long as the driver listens to the directions
and follows them, the driver will arrive at their desired destination. However,
if the driver ignores the commands given, there’s a good chance that the driver
will get lost and be unable to find his way. Fortunately, most GPS have
rerouting directions, so that when the original directions aren’t followed, it
will give the driver another route, so that he can still arrive at his desired
destination.
The Potter is our spiritual GPS. He has given us directions
to His house through His Holy Word. All we have to do is follow them and one
day, we will arrive. The GPS is His Word and the navigational voice is the Holy
Spirit. All we have to do is listen and follow all commands. Sometimes,
however, we decide to take our own directions because we think that we have a
short-cut only to find ourselves lost and in need of a reroute. When we decide
to listen to the Holy Spirit after we have fallen off course, He will gladly
reroute us and get us back on the path towards God. This doesn’t mean that a
person will be perfect and never do anything wrong. The Holy Spirit is always
there to say, “Turn around! Wrong way! Make a turn here!” He does this in order
to lead us back to the path of the Potter’s House. Let’s see what streets that
we have drive down using the Potter’s GPS to get to where He is.
Ask
Street – Mark 11:24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer,
believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. (NIV) We must
first ask for the Potter to enter our hearts. He is all too willing to reside
in us, but first, we must ask Him to do so. When He create us, He did so with
us having access to free will. Therefore, He never forces us to do anything,
but if we ask, He will gladly reside in us.
Belief
Road – Acts 16:31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you
will be saved – you and your household.” (NIV) We must believe that God
is able to save us and through Jesus Christ alone this is done. There is no
other way to get to the Father, but through his Son Jesus. Therefore, when we
ask Him into our hearts and believe that He is the Son of the Living God, this
is the starting point at which our lives begin going in the right direction.
Confess
Lane – 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and
will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (NIV) We
must confess our sins to Him. God already knows what we have done wrong in our
lives. Nevertheless, He wants us to acknowledge what we have done as an act of
humility before Him because He loves us.
Repent
Ave – Acts 3:19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may
be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord. (NIV)
Once we confess our sins, then we are to repent of them. That means that we do
not continue to do the sinful behavior that once separated us from God. True
repentance means that we do a U-turn in the opposite direction and do not keep
repeating the same mistakes that we once made.
Claim
Blvd – Romans 4:20-21 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding
the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God,
being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he promised. (NIV) As
we continue to drive down the road towards our eternal destination, we must
make sure to claim God’s promises. We must have faith and believe that God’s
word is true and that He desires for us to spend eternity with Him. Therefore,
we can claim and stand on His promises that we will one day arrive at the
pearly gates of Heaven.
Baptism
Junction – Acts 2:38 Peter replied, “Repent and he baptized, every one of
you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will
receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (NIV) As a sign of obedience, God
wants us all to be baptized in Him with water and with the fire of the Holy
Spirit. Baptism within itself does not save you, but when you decide to follow
Jesus, you will follow His example in all things. Baptism is the watery grave
that lets the world know that you have died to the old, once you are submerged
under water, and have come up in the new just as Jesus was resurrected.
Holy
Spirit Station – Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes
on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and
Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (NIV) Upon accepting Jesus into
your heart and being baptized, the Holy Spirit resides in your heart. He will
teach you all things and give you spiritual gifts as we discussed in the
previous chapter to do that work for the Kingdom that you are called to do. Everyone
will not have the same gift, but those in Christ body will have the same
Spirit. Never pass up Holy Spirit Station because He empowers the believer with the fuel that's need to make life's journey.
Evangelism
Highway – Mark 16:15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach
the good news to all creation. (NIV) Finally, you must keep driving
till you get to Heaven, but as you drive, Evangelism Highway will be a long
stretch of road because it is on this road that you will give others directions
to the Potter’s House. We can’t afford to keep the gospel of Christ to
ourselves. There’s a world that is lost and just as someone shared the gospel
with us, we must do our part to share it with someone else.
Now that you have directions to the
Potter’s House, let’s see what He wants to do to restore us along the way. The
path to the Potter’s House is not always easy. There is sure to be times of turbulence
along the way. Nevertheless, the Potter is doing work on our vessels as we are
arriving. We must remember to always stop at the Holy Spirit Service Station in order for Him to refuel, run a dialysis and do a tune-up, so that our vessels will arrive in tip top shape.
TOMORROW, LET'S BEGIN WITH THE POTTER'S DESIRE FOR...RESTORATION.
