1 CORINTHIANS MOMENT – (03DEC19) “But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith” (1 Corinthians 15:12-14). While Jesus was on earth, He corrected the Sadducees’ belief that there was no resurrection of the dead, which was one of the major differences between them and the Pharisees. Despite Jesus having addressed the issue, the Sadducees continued with this belief, so they were in total opposition against the apostles who preached another message of there being a risen Savior. Paul, when addressing the church in Corinth, wanted to give them hope concerning the state of the dead who had died in Christ.

The reason for the Gospel being preached, according to Paul, was so the Good News of salvation could be spread throughout the world. This was only made possible through Jesus’ death and resurrection, for if Christ had not risen and was still in the grave, we would be lost in our sins. Those who had already died would have no hope of ever being resurrected because Christ would not have risen. Nevertheless, Paul told them that Jesus did indeed rise, and this is why we have the hope that we preach and teach.

The mortal body that dies is not the same body that rises for we will have new heavenly bodies. Adam was a man of flesh and died a natural death due to sin, but Jesus, who was the second Adam, had not committed sin, so when He rose, He rose to His heavenly body. Paul asserted that nothing that is sewn into the ground comes back up in the same manner as he gave the example of wheat that has been planted as a seed. The seed must die so that the plant can grow. Such is the way that it is for those who have died in the Lord.

There will be no bodies in Heaven made of flesh that deteriorates and die, but our mortal bodies will become immortal and once we take off these perishable vessels, we will never have to put them back on where they can break down from sickness, disease, and ultimately death. Jesus conquered death and we too are victorious because of Him. Death is not the end for the believer, but only the beginning of a new life with Christ.

If you have lost a loved one, you will see them again if they were a believer. Death causes pain while we are here on earth, but praise God that it is not the end for those who believe in Him. God will wipe every tear from your eyes and in Heaven, there will be no more sin, sickness, grief or sadness. We will never fell heartbreak, loneliness, emptiness, or despair. It will all be a thing of the past because God will be doing something new where Satan will no longer have any reign to bring misery to those in Christ. The Bible says: “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death' or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away” (Revelation 21:4). Something to ponder….
