1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but god is
faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but
with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to
bear it. (NIV)
The Bible tells the story of Esther,
a young maiden, who was of Jewish descent. Her cousin, Mordecai, had raised her
after the death of her parents. King Xerxes, who was ruler at the time, began
the search for a new queen after his former queen had disobeyed his command. He
sent a decree for all of the beautiful women across the land to come to his
palace so that a new queen could be chosen. However, knowledge that she was a
Jew was to be kept secret. For a year, Esther, along with the other young
maidens, were to have beauty treatments to prepare them for the royal position.
They would be treated with oils, perfumes, and cosmetics. King Xerxes favored
Esther and she was later chosen to be his queen.
Due to her being a Jew, she wouldn’t
have normally been chosen, but God had a plan for her life. She would later be
the one to save her people from being killed at the hands of an evil man. It
didn’t matter where she came from, it only mattered where God was going to take
her in order for His purpose to be fulfilled.
Many people allow what they look
like or feel about themselves discourage them from fulfilling the destiny that
God has for them. We may say things, as…I’m not thin enough. My hair isn’t long
enough. My teeth aren’t straight enough. I don’t look like _______in the
magazine. Well, neither does she before the hair extensions, fake lashes,
makeup, body spray, teeth whitener, acrylic nails, and photo shop.
The weight of weight comes in many
forms. It doesn’t necessarily have to be pounds. It can be anything that you
carry with you and keep you weighed down to keep you from fulfilling your
God-given destiny. Self-doubt is a weight. Low self-esteem is a weight. Poor
body image is a weight. Lack of confidence is a weight. Drug and alcohol abuse,
sexual abuse, negativity, and even procrastination is a weight. Do you see
where I am going with this?
There are many weights that people carry. Skinny people carry just as much weight
as plus size people. The only difference is one is on the outside, which is
noticeably seen, and the other is sometimes well hidden. The outcome of both is
just the same. They both can keep you in bondage. There are plus size people
who are happier than the size 2 person and vice versa. It’s about the inside
and letting God showcase Himself on the outside. All weights can become dead
weight if we do not allow the Holy Spirit to do a work in us. We must ask God
to help us with whatever weights we carry that is not from Him. Love God and
love yourself regardless of whatever stage you are in life. Take baby steps and
allow God to help you drop those weights.
