Jesus Dropped the Charges

Hebrews 9:22 In fact, the law requires that nearly everything he cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. (NIV)

I can only imagine that it was a very sad day as Jesus stood before the governor of Rome, Pontius Pilate, to be charged with a crime that He had never committed. The religious rulers' hatred and contempt for Him clouded their judgment as to who He was. There He was standing before the man who had the earthly decision to either free or kill Him. God had already established a plan though, which took humans of an evil nature to carry out. Here stood the Son of God, in human flesh, standing in front of people who hated, mocked and sneered at Him. No one would come to His rescue. No one would defend Him. No one to take His case Pro Bono. There He stood alone where people would rather have had a convicted felon, Barabbas, free than to have a Man who only showed love and compassion.

Despite everything that was done to Him, He was still willing to die on the cross for our sins. Nothing or no one could have detoured God's plan. Jesus was to carry out a sentence that He didn't deserve. Feelings of abandonment came to Him as He cried out, "Father, why have You forsaken Me?" God watched as His Son hung there dying for a sinful world that didn't deserve the gift that was being given. Jesus never said a wrong thing even to the soldiers as they had placed the nails in His hands and feet. He only said, "Forgive them for they know not what they do." Luke 23:34. He paid the price for our sins when He said...it is finished, and then He died.

We were the ones guilty of being a rebellious people. We should have died a sinner's death. We were the "Barabbas" who should have gone in His place, and yet, He didn't give us the punishment that we deserved. Satan was the prosecutor. Our sins was the evidence; Satan lined up exhibits A-Z to condemn us. His demonic forces were the witnesses. The mandatory sentence was death by hell fire. But God was the Supreme Court. He called the court to session. Jesus was our advocate. The case was battled. The scales of sufficient evidence were tipping in Satan's favor. But Jesus gave His closing argument by saying that He had already been the sacrifice and His blood had been shed. Without any further discussion case was DISMISSED! Jesus Dropped The Charges!!!
