Nigeria Resisted the devil...a.k.a. Obama and He Fled

James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Prior to a recent visit, 700 pastors from Kenya were reported as having sent a message to Obama to let him know that they did not want him to come to their country with the idea of promoting the homosexual agenda. They did not mind him coming to visit his native land, but they were not interested in his ungodly agenda with regards to the advancement of homosexuality. Despite their plea, Obama did not listen, and attempted to make it one of his primary goals to influence the nation to take on the sodomite spirit that he possesses upon his visit with the president of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta. Nevertheless, the Kenyan President rejected the idea by saying that it was a “non issue” for his country. Therefore, he resisted the call of an ungodly president by not even entertaining the thought of changing his stance on homosexuality within his country. Obama left with his tail between his legs.

Just as the Kenyan President rejected the advances of the devil, we too must do so in our everyday lives. The devil will always try to bring the temptation of compromise our way and once we take a sip from the cup, there is no end to it. However, we can have the victory just as our Lord and Savior did. Jesus was also tempted by the devil, during his time here on earth, while on a 40-day fast, yet he did not yield to the devil’s temptations. He did not even entertain the thought in his mind.

Luke 4:1-13 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry. The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’ ” The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. If you worship me, it will all be yours.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’ ” The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. For it is written: ‘He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’ ” Jesus answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’ ” When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time. (NIV)

If the devil thought nothing about tempting Jesus, who are we that he would not try to tempt us as well. The devil comes in many forms to tempt us in order to have us disobey the word of God just as he did with Adam and Eve. You may ask, "What does he tempt us with?" He tempts everyone differently. Whatever area he can use to keep us out of the Kingdom of God, he will definitely try. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. (NIV)

The devil knows the word of God better than we do. Therefore, he knows what to use against us in order to get us to break God’s laws just as he used Balaam to inform King Balak as to how the Israelites could bring about a curse on themselves since he was unable to do it. Numbers 25:1-3 While Israel was staying in Shittim, the men began to indulge in sexual immorality with Moabite women, who invited them to the sacrifices to their gods. The people ate the sacrificial meal and bowed down before these gods. So Israel yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor. And the Lord’s anger burned against them. (NIV) Everyone has a different flavor. Your area of temptation may not be the same as someone else's, so the devil will use whatever he can to appeal to your particular taste buds.

The devil is very cunning and knows that anything, which goes against the laws of God, can ultimately land you into hell if you do not repent. He has nothing to lose; therefore, he is trying to take as many souls with him and his angels to the fiery furnace. He will scheme, plot and plan whatever he can to entice you to do evil and lead you down a road to your untimely demise. For example, he knows that sexual sin can lead you to hell. Therefore, he will entice a pastor who struggles with lust to secretly watch porn. He knows that idolatry is a sin, so he will have a CEO to spend more time promoting his company and less time with God. He knows that adultery is wrong, so he will tempt a couple, whose marriage is already falling apart, to turn to the arms of a “listening” ear, preferably the opposite sex, and into the sheets. He is well aware that homosexuality is wrong, so he will have churches to compromise God’s law in the name of “loving” all for the sake of inclusivity and being “politically” correct. The list goes on and on.

However, we have to be obedient to the will of God regardless of the devil’s demonic schemes. The devil is going to do his best to throw all kinds of temptations our way. Nevertheless, we have a God who is stronger than the devil and is able to help us in our time of test and trial. All we have to do is to lean on Him and He is able to keep us from falling prey to the enemy. 1 Corinthians 10:12-13 So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. (NIV) Will the devil try again? You'd better expect it! Therefore, be prepared by being in the word of God, prayer and fasting. We must put on the whole armor of God in order to resist the devil and then he will flee. Ephesians 6:11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. (NIV)
