The Demon of Doubt
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (NIV)
Doubt! Yes, It is a demon. It has the
ability to make you question everything God has promised in His word. That
is...if you allow it. It will make you question rather this Christian journey
that you're on is worth the struggle. After all, did you have as many trials
out in the world? Some of us, no! However, as soon as you decided to serve God
fully, that's when all the demonic forces came forth. Doubt! It can make you
jump ahead of God because you don't see anything happening when you think it
should just as Abraham did with the promise of a child that God had given. You may have waited with great expectation day after day and year after year only to be disappointed with the promise never coming to fulfillment. It replays like a movie marathon over and over in your mind that what you have been
believing in will never come to pass.
The doubt demon will put various thoughts in your mind. It's been too long! You are too old! You're not good enough! You didn't hear God say that, so it must have been in your head! You are never going to make it! Over and over and over again the thoughts run in your mind. Now you have let doubt plant a seed. And when it grows, boy, does it grow. Not only does it grow, it produces sprouts. By the time it's done, it will have uprooted all the dreams you ever had. You begin to listen to it and then you work less and less on your dream. Eventually, it starts getting further and further away from you until you stop dreaming altogether. You stop believing. You stop praying. You...have given up. Doubt! It won! However, Jesus let us know that if we had faith only as small as a mustard seed, it could move mountains. Matthew 17:20
He replied, "Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." (NIV)
So, what do you do now? DEMAND A REMATCH!!! Don't let doubt get the final say. Don't let it have the victory. Corinthians 15:57... but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord. (KJV) We have the victory! It has already been won! We are almost at the finish line. We can't give up now. See, doubt works hardest when it knows that we are almost about to receive what God has promised. It desires for us to throw up our hands right before the curtain opens.
Don't let that demon seed of doubt take over your mind. Declare in the name of Jesus, "Get thee behind me!" Where doubt says no, God says yes. Where doubt says you can't, God says you will. Where doubt says it will never work, God says it's already done. Where doubt says just give up, God says hold on just a little longer. Kick doubt out the door and welcome God in. He has your back! Mark 9:23 "'If you can'?" said Jesus. "Everything is possible for one who believes." (NIV)
