King of kings and Lord of lords: The Ten Commandments (Part 3)

                             Do Not Kill!

“You must not murder” (Exodus 20:13).

According to the FBI’s crime statistics, there were an estimated 1,206,836 violent crimes in 2018 within the United States. These numbers are reflective not only of the crimes themselves but where the hearts of man are. Ever since Adam and Eve were kicked out of the Garden of Eden, sin has taken its toll on mankind. Hate and envy has filled the hearts of the human race and the uncontrolled urge to kill has been the end result. Adam and Eve’s firstborn son, Cain, being jealous of his younger brother, Abel, found it better to kill him out of anger and jealousy than to obey the Lord’s commands. This was the first murder recorded in the book of Genesis. The Bible says, “Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.” While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him” (Genesis 4:6-8). In an effort to destroy all that was good, which God had made, Satan has been on a mission to have man destroy themselves; therefore, murder through various methods has increased throughout the centuries.

The United States have had many politicians run on the promise to improve the dwindling social security benefits, for future generations, due to there not being enough people to pay into it. Unfortunately, the reason that we do not have enough people to pay into it is because we have killed off an entire generation of people in the womb. According to a report by the National Right to Life Committee, it indicates that there have been an estimated 61,628,584 abortions since Woe vs. Wade. So, we have murdered over 61 MILLION people within the United States since 1973. That is in the same murdering category as both Hitler and Stalin with whom we have considered as murderous monsters. We are no better than they were because we are still killing innocent babies who do not even have a chance to speak for themselves. We are a murderous nation, and God is displeased with us as well as the other nations who have and are still doing mass genocide.

When the Children of Israel offered their children to the god, Molech, the Lord rebuked them, but He had first given them a warning not to do such things. The Bible says, “Do not give any of your children to be sacrificed to Molek, for you must not profane the name of your God. I am the LORD” (Leviticus 18:21). After the Children of Israel fell into heathen worship and began to sacrifice their Children to the fires of Molech, God had this to say: “The people of Judah have done evil in my eyes, declares the Lord. They have set up their detestable idols in the house that bears my Name and have defiled it. They have built the high places of Topheth in the Valley of Ben Hinnom to burn their sons and daughters in the fire—something I did not command, nor did it enter my mind” (Jeremiah 7:30-31). God does not, nor will He ever approve the killing of innocent children. Therefore, we are guilty as a nation before the Lord of committing murder when we abort His little ones. Jesus said, “It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones” (Luke 17:2). What greater offense could one do than to take the life of God’s beloved? Because we are not the Creator of Life, we have no right to take it.

                Do Not Commit Adultery!

“You must not commit adultery” (Exodus 20:14).

When God made Adam and Eve, He ordained for there to be one woman to every man through the sanctity of marriage. Sadly, man allowed the devil to mess things up where men and women were and still are committing every type of sexual sin that can be imagined. According to a report on Marriage.com, infidelity is the number one cause of divorce in the United States. 55% of men and 50% of women surveyed by Trustify admit to cheating. Unfortunately, this has had a devastating effect on the families involved, and overall, it affects society as a whole due to the ramifications on the children. This was not a part of God’s original design for the family, and He established this commandment of not committing adultery to be included in the Ten to avoid such marital destruction. The Bible says, “He who commits adultery lacks sense; he who does it destroys himself” (Proverbs 6:32). This verse is not only for the married, but also includes any type of sexual sin such as fornication (sex by singles), homosexuality, bestiality, pornography, masturbation, and any type of sexual sin outside of the marriage union. Even the thoughts of lust are considered sinful if you allow them to fester in your mind. The Bible says, “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Matthew 5:27-28).

Transgenderism has taken the United States by storm. There are those who will tell you that you can be any gender you wish and that your sexual limitations, if there are any, are totally up to you. Well, it’s not! God has given us clear guidelines as to how we are to live our lives. The Bible says, “So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God, he created them; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27). We do not get to pick and choose what gender we will be. God is STILL creating human beings in the wombs of their mothers. He decides what sex we are to be, and we are to accept that we are created by His design and not our own. A person who is born a male is not by happenstance, nor is a person who is born a female. God designed each individual exactly as He planned for them to be. No one is born in the wrong body and no one is born gay. We were, however, born in sin. The Bible says, “Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me” (Psalm 51:5).

Many people refer to the Scripture which says that we are not saved by the law, but by grace through faith, and while this is true, God still expects us to live holy and righteous lives. Sin cannot exist in the presence of a Holy God. The Bible says, “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies” (1 Corinthians 6:18-20). Because we are to honor God with our lives, we are to ensure that we live in accordance with His guidelines which are set forth in His WORD. When we turn away from God, we are living contrary to His will for us.

Adultery takes on a secondary meaning for those in the body of Christ. When we turn our backs to God and His will for our lives, we are committing adultery against Him. We have turned to other gods, and in so doing, broken the covenant that we have made to God. The Bible says, “But like a woman unfaithful to her husband, so you, Israel, have been unfaithful to me,” declares the Lord” (Jeremiah 3:20). Christ is the Bridegroom, and we are His bride. He expects us to be faithful and loyal to Him as a wife is expected to be towards her husband. When we dishonor God with our lives, we are proving our unfaithfulness to Him. Nevertheless, even when we have been unfaithful to Him, God remained faithful to us. He takes us back into His fold and even though we have often acted as an adulterous mate. His love covers a multitude of sins. The Bible says, “Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4:8).
