NUMBERS MOMENT – (20FEB19) God had just helped Israel to win
a battle over their enemies, the Canaanites, when the Israelites began to
complain once again against Moses and the Lord over their appetite. God sent
poisonous snakes throughout the Israelite camp killing a lot of them until
Moses interceded to the Lord once again on their behalf. The Lord had Moses to
make a bronze snake and put it on a pole. Anyone who had been bitten could look
upon the snake and be healed. How many of us would find it easy to pray for
someone who was always complaining and making it difficult for us to lead?
Nevertheless, this is what Moses did, which showed his compassion and humility.
Moses could have taken the position of allowing God to kill them all without a
second thought because of how they treated him with contempt, but he did not do
that. He prayed and interceded for his grumblers which saved many of them.
There will always be people around us who will challenge our faith, patience,
and endurance. Rather it’s an unsaved spouse, rebellious children, narcissistic
boss, envious friends, or unruly neighbors, there will always be a challenge
that will test who we are in God. What really determines our spiritual growth
is not how well we behave when things are agreeable with us, but how we respond
to people and things when they are the most difficult. Try something today…pray
for the person with whom you consider to be the most grievous in your life and
watch God move. Something to ponder…
