Yahweh-Tsidkenu (The Lord Our Righteousness)

Yahweh-Tsidkenu (The Lord Our Righteousness)

Jeremiah 23:6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. (KJV)

In a world that embraces, endorses and enjoy sin and dare to speak negatively against those who will stand against it, Yahweh-Tsidkenu, the Lord our Righteousness, is looking for a remnant who will stand firm on His behalf. He is looking for those who will boldly set the example of His righteousness for others to see. The world does not know God and therefore, the example that the body of Christ sets before them is more significant today than ever before. When God had made the decision to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah due to their wickedness, Abraham petitioned God to spare the city if he could find some righteous people there. Genesis 18:20-23 (20)Then the Lord said, “The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous (21)that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know.” (22)The men turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the Lord. (23)Then Abraham approached him and said: “Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked?” (NIV) Abraham thought that there had to be someone who was righteous in the city. Unfortunately, there weren’t, with the exception of Lot and his family, and the two cities met their demise.

Yahweh-Tsidkenu, the Lord our Righteousness, desires for His people to live holy and upright lives. We are a reflection of who He is. Sin cannot exist in the presence of our Righteous God and those who wish to abide with Him for eternity must wear the garments of righteousness. Isaiah 61:10-11 I delight greatly in the lord, my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations. (NIV) Many people are holding on to what they consider “little” sins and therefore, they think that God will look the other way and declare them as being righteous. However, even though we are saved by grace, God still has an expectation for His children because of Who He Is.

Now, we must understand that no one can live a righteous life without the help of God. The law showed us what our sins were, but God’s grace and mercy helps us to be saved even when we fail. Romans 3:21-24 (21)But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. (22)This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, (23)for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (24)And all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. (NIV)
