God is Love, Merciful, Compassionate and Justice

God is Love.

When a married couple holds their precious baby in their arms for the first time, nothing can surpass the amount of joy and happiness that they experience. The little life that was brought into the world gives them a feeling that despite the challenges of labor, the tradeoff was worth the end result. This is how it is with God.
God loves us despite all that we have ever said, thought or done. His love is unconditional and doesn’t come with any strings attached. He doesn’t love you one day and then hate you the next. His love isn’t based on the good or bad that you have done. His love is genuine and it comes from the heart. It is not something you can pay for because it is free. It is not something that you can bargain for because there is no exchange. It is not something that hurts because God only heals. It is not something that will run out because God’s love in continuous. 1 John 4:16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God. (NIV) You may never hear someone tell you that they love you, but God is showing you all the time that He’s in love with YOU.

God is a God of Mercy, Compassion and Justice.

There have been numerous incidents in the news where people have alleged that an injustice was done to them. A family member may have been killed, and they did not get the desired outcome, through the courts, they felt should have been an easy victory. A firing from a place of employment, for religious beliefs may have taken place, while an exception was made towards another group with questionable tendencies. A pulpit bully may have caused a member to leave due to constant attacks behind the camouflage of a sermon or maybe it’s something less sinister.  Despite whatever wrongs that may have been done to you in life, God’s mercy, compassion and justice never fails. Isaiah 30:18 Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him. (NIV) We are to never take it upon ourselves to issue justice to others. God feels everything that we go through and is merciful not because we deserve it, but because of Who He Is. We must allow God to fight our battles and in the end, we will win.

God is timely.

Have you ever had to wait on a friend to get ready for an event who was “never” punctual? It can be a little frustrating if you are the type of person who is always on time. There is a saying, “You’ll be late to your own funeral.” Many people may hope that be the case under the circumstances. Though the idea of lateness may irk some people and the frustration of waiting can try the patience of many, God is always on time in whatever area of our life that we need Him.

Some may think that God is slow and takes His time to answer our prayers. However, God’s timing doesn’t coincide with man’s 24-hour clocks as we know of time to be. Because God is outside of time, almighty and all-knowing, He alone decides and knows what is best for us and when it is time for us to receive it. Some of us may have asked God for things years ago, but if He had given it to us at that time, we would have made a mess of things. Therefore, He delayed its coming until He felt that we were ready to receive it. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. (NIV) Yes, God is not slow, but patient and with patience, He waits for the diamond to shine within the rock.

God cannot lie.

Years ago, the polygraph machine was created for law enforcement to use in order to tell if a potential witness was being honest about a testimony. The person would be hooked up to some wires and asked a series of questions. The technician giving the test could tell from the movements of the machine if the answers being given were true. Despite the use of these machines, most courts do not allow them to be counted as evidence due to the possibility of computer error.

God, however, never needs to be questioned about a promise that He makes. If He says it, then He will do it. His promises never return void. He never writes a check that can’t be cashed. God has an obligation to keep His word even when we fail to keep ours. Why is this? It’s because He is God. God doesn’t operate the same as human beings. Man makes promises and sometimes don’t keep them. However, God always keeps His promise and that is a guarantee. Numbers 23:19 God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? (NIV) Whatever God has spoken over your life, you can trust and believe that it will come to past.

God does not change.

Bipolar is characterized as a mental disorder that affects a person’s mood and can cause depression. Sometimes the person can be happy and other times sad. There are times when they are pleasant and then there are times they are irritable. One can never know which emotion will be felt or displayed on a given day. Medicine is often prescribed for those diagnosed with this type of disorder. However, God is not this way.
God is always constant and never changes. God never changes His mind about how He feels for His children. God is a loving parent and that will never end. He desires for everyone to be in relationship with Him and He does not want to see the destruction of anyone. God’s mind is made up about us and even when we are unfaithful to Him, He is always faithful to us. God’s love is everlasting and it does not sway with the wind. Hebrews 6:17-18 Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. (NIV) We can have faith in knowing that whatever promises God has made, He will keep and His love for us never changes.

We are now going to go over some of the names of God, so that you will have a better understanding as to who God really is.
