God has no
beginning or End.
Most
people were taught about the birds and the bees in regards to knowing that they
had a set of parents comprised of both a mother and father to whom they were
born. Even if they were adopted by people not related to them by biology, this
understanding is widely known and taught at home, schools, and/or church. From
cats to dogs and lions to zebras, everyone has a set of parents originating
from a male and female. However, this was not the way with God.
God was not born from a set of parents.
God does not have a birth date with which He was created. God did not spring
into existence leaving a trail of DNA to follow nor was He a creation from the
depths of someone’s mind. God…He just is. This may be a challenge for some
people to understand that God is someone who doesn’t have a beginning or end,
but that is exactly who God is. In the book of Exodus 3:18 of the New International Version Bible (NIV) it reads, “God
said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: I
AM has sent me to you.’ ”
Moses
had been chosen by God to lead the children of Israel out of bondage in Egypt. However,
Moses had doubts as to if the Children of Israel would believe and accept his
word. This is why God gave him the response that He did. God was letting Moses
know that His name, “I Am,” which means that He just is, requires no other
explanation because there isn’t one to be given. So you may ask, “What does this mean?” What
God was saying to Moses was that there was no one before or after Him. He
exists outside of time. Revelation 1:8 “I am the Alpha and
the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the
Almighty.” (NIV) God is letting us know in this scripture that He is
the beginning and the end. He is like a ring. You cannot tell where the ring
starts or ends, but you know that it exists. God is the same way.
Now
many may find this hard to understand and that is perfectly okay. It is
impossible for the human mind to comprehend everything there is to know about
God. This is one of the reasons why God gave us His word, so that we can
understand and get to know Him better. We may not fully grasp all there is to
know about God because of our human limitations, but we can surely have an
understanding that will help us to know why He loves us and why we should reciprocate
that love. This requires a measure of faith. Hebrews 11:1 Faith is
being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. (NIV)
No one has ever seen God, but our faith
allows us to believe that He does exists. In addition to faith, He has left us
plenty of evidence about His existence and just as we know that the wind
exists, although we have never seen it, because we have felt it against our
skin or have seen the trees and grass sway due to its presence, it is the same
way with God. This goes into the next important fact about God. He is Omnipresent.
