God is
Omnipresent (Everywhere).
Imagine
being behind the lens of a video camera. You have access to see everything
around you at a 360° angle. You can see high above, down below, left to right,
and nothing can ever get pass your view. This is how God is. There is nowhere
in the world that we can go without God being there because God sees everything.
Jeremiah
23:23-24 “Am I only a God nearby,” declares the Lord, “and not a God far
away? Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?” declares the
Lord. “Do not I fill heaven and earth?” (NIV) God was letting the prophet
Jeremiah know that He was everywhere and that He sees all. Isn’t it wonderful
that we have a God who sees all and can help us in any situation that we may
find ourselves in? He never needs a car, boat, or plane to get to His
children. All we have to do is call His
name and He is there. Even if we are not able to speak it out loud…our God sees
all.
God is
Omniscient (All-knowing).
You
may be able to recall being a student at a young age in school. At the
beginning of each school year, you knew that the work would get a little more
challenging as each grade level increased. For every class that you had, there
was a need to devote more time and dedication to your studies in order to get
descent grades. The teacher may have informed the class that there would be
tests to take and sometimes, a pop quiz may also be given. If you are like most
students, you hated the idea of a pop quiz because you never knew what exactly
would be on it.
Well God operates a little bit different.
He doesn’t have to get stressed over tests or worry about the unknown. The
reason being is because He knows everything there is to know about everything.
There’s nothing that happens that can surprise God. He knows what man will do
before He even thinks it. Psalms 139:1-4 You have searched me,
Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I
rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying
down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you,
Lord, know it completely. (NIV) So you may ask the question,
“Well if God knows everything, then why is it important to pray?” Good
question! Prayer is God’s way of keeping the line of communication open with
Him. Yes, He indeed already knows what we’re going to say before we do it.
However, even though He knows everything about us, He still desires for us to
talk to Him daily for He never sleeps nor slumbers. We’ll talk more on prayer
in upcoming lesson.
God is
Omnipotent (Almighty).
Millions
of people around the world love to watch sports. The sports industry brings in
billions of dollars a year, which includes games, food, souvenirs, clothing
apparel, and more. One common denominator with most sports is that it takes the
cooperation of a team to play the game. Even though several members may be more
popular than others, they still cannot win a game with a team of one. Everyone
has to contribute and do their part in order for the team to successfully play.
However, with God…it is different. God
doesn’t need anyone to help Him accomplish a task. God is a team of His own. He
can handle multiple tasks all at once and none will be lacking in efficiency.
If there is a war to be fought, He has it covered. If there is a situation that
needs fixing, He has it under control. If the doctors shake their heads, God
can override their diagnosis. Nothing is impossible for God to do. Matthew
19:26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with
God all things are possible.” (NIV)
We
can take any situation to God in prayer and He has not only the answer, but the
solution. God can do what we cannot do ourselves. God should always be the
first point of contact instead of the last option. We serve a mighty God who
never gets tired or weak. He holds the whole world in His hand and is able to
help us handle any obstacle that crosses our path. Man puts faith in military
might and weapons, but God is our constant Source.
