Grieving God’s Heart
1.) INTRO--
Genesis 6:5-7 The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had
become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human
heart was only evil all the time. The Lord regretted that he had made human
beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. So the Lord said, “I
will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with
them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move alone the ground—for I
regret that I have made them.” (NIV)
God Destroyed the World because of its Wickedness
Genesis 1:26-27 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our
likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the
sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures
that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the
image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (NIV)
Genesis 3:23-24 So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to
work the ground from which he had been taken. After he drove the man out, he
placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword
flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.
Genesis 4:10-12 The Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s
blood cries out to me from the ground. Now you are under a curse and driven
from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from
your hand. When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you.
You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.” (NIV)
2.) Break--
The Nation has Turned Her Heart Against God
Ezekiel 6:9 Then in the nations where they have been carried captive,
those who escape will remember me—how I have been grieved by their adulterous
hearts, which have turned away from me, and by their eyes, which have lusted
after their idols. They will loathe themselves for the evil they have done and
for all their detestable practices. (NIV)
Jeremiah 3:20 “Surely, as a woman treacherously departs from her lover,
So you have dealt treacherously with Me, O house of Israel,” declares the Lord.
(NIV)
Hosea 1:2 When the Lord began to speak through Hosea, the Lord said
to him, “Go, marry a promiscuous woman and have children with her, for like an
adulterous wife this land is guilty of unfaithfulness to the Lord.
3.) BREAK—
God calls us to Repentance
2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people who are called by my name humble themselves,
and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear
from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
