"Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well" (3 John 1:2). Gaius was a good friend of the Apostle John and was a dedicated worker of the gospel. Yet, he suffered in his health, so in writing to him, John prayed for his "physical" health to be as prosperous as his spiritual health.
Some people have taken this text out of context to support the prosperity gospel, but we must understand the "original intent of the author's words. This prosperity that John desired for his friend was not about money, but he wanted him to be able to continue his work in the faith. So, in order to do that, he needed to be in Good Health. God wants us all to be in good spiritual and physical health. While there are times the body may not align with the Spirit, as was Gaius' case, we can still claim the Word of God for healing in accordance with His perfect will. Therefore, I pray that you will all be prosperous and be of the belief that God wants you in good health Spiritually, Physically, and Emotionally.
