EXODUS MOMENT
EXODUS MOMENT – Moses had thrown down the two tablets of
stone that God had written His commands on when he saw the golden calf that the
Children of Israel had made and was worshiping. Just as Moses had broken the
physical tablets on which God’s commands were written, they had broken God’s
commands spiritually by turning to idolatry. Their sinful action inspired Moses’
impulsive reaction –leaving God with the task of dealing with two different and
yet related situations. God repeated the commandments that the Children of
Israel were to keep, so that His commands would be written on their hearts and
mind. God also rewrote the Ten Commandments on two more tablets of stone.
Whereas the first set, God handed to Moses having already written His laws on
them, this time, Moses had to chisel out two tablets himself that were similar to
the ones before for God to write on. It seems that God made Moses do the work so
that he could be mindful to control his anger. Just as Moses temporarily
allowed his anger to get the best of him, sometimes we too allow our anger to
get the best of us when we see sin in the world.
God makes room for us to have
a righteous anger, but we must be careful to ensure that our anger is indeed righteous
and not out of pride and/or arrogance. We must be careful to not be the pharisee
looking down on the sinner, or we may cause ourselves to be blocked from
greater blessings as we will see with Moses in the upcoming chapters. We should
be sure that we always do the right thing for the right reason and God will bless
us accordingly. Something to ponder…
