DAILY REMINDER – Today, October 20’s Bible reading is Mark 12-13.
NEXT DAY REMINDER – Tomorrow, October 20’s Bible reading is Mark 14.
May God bless you with the reading of His WORD.
MARK MOMENT – (20OCT19)
“And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the
people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums.
And a poor widow came and put in two small
copper coins, which make a penny” (Mark 12:41-42). Jesus was sitting across from the temple treasury where He could
see the people as they came in to give. Some people had a lot of money to give
and it was noticeable as their coins were going into the box. But then came this
poor widow with just two small coins and she placed them inside the box and
went on her way. Jesus took notice and told His disciples that the rich people
had given from their wealth, but the poor woman had given from her need.
Therefore, in the Kingdom’s scales of all things, this poor widow’s sacrificial
offering weighed more than those who had given from their excess.
There is a lot of
value placed on what a person is able to put in the offering plate at many churches.
There are stories of churches even requiring for their members to give them
their w-2’s in order to see that they are giving their 10% of tithes and
offerings. But, what many fail to realize is that God is not judging a person
based on their amount of giving, but from the heart of which they are giving.
The Lord could care less about a dollar value. Jesus cares only about the
matters of the heart because He is the owner of everything and will never go
broke. The Bible says: “If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for
the world and its fullness are mine” (Psalm 50:12). When we give,
rather it be through money, service, talents, or in some other manner, we are
to give with our whole hearts unto the Lord. He is looking for quality over
quantity and Jesus loves us with an everlasting love. Something to ponder….
QUESTION OF THE DAY - (20OCT19)
“Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of
the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows,
or in the morning— lest he
come suddenly and find you asleep. And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake” (Mark
13:35-37). Do you know when Jesus is going to
return? Of course not! Yet, there are many “date-setters” who are deceiving
people into thinking that they know the dates and times as to when the bride of
Christ will be raptured from this world. Unfortunately, all of the dates have
been absolutely found to be false. One of the most well-known date failures is
from history with the Millerites.
William Miller, a Baptist Preacher, predicted
that Jesus would return in 1844. People sold their homes, personal treasures,
and waited on October 12 for Jesus to return. Of course, He did not come, so
William Miller moved the date to October 22, 1844, and once again he was
wrong. This part of religious history became known as the Great Disappointment where
other religious sects came from such as the Seventh-Day Adventists, and later,
Jehovah Witness. Unfortunately, Christians are still falling for the same
tricks when it comes to these date setters. Jesus told us to watch for the
signs so that we would be aware of the season for His return. Even so, there was
never a date to be attached to His command because God has not privy anyone to that
kind of information. If even the angels do not know when Jesus will return, how
would we expect to know such privileged data? We are to just WATCH and BE
READY. It’s as simple as that. Too many believers are more focused on the timing
rather than ensuring that their hearts, minds and souls are ready. Jesus is
clear when He said, “But concerning that day or that
hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the
Father. Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the
time will come” (Mark 13:32-33). Will you
be ready? I pray that we are all ready to meet the Lord in the air whenever
that time comes. Something to ponder….
