Ephesians
6:15 And with your feet fitted with readiness that comes from the gospel of
peace.
The mother of
the King Lemuel, although little is known about this king, was given great
words of wisdom in Proverbs 31:10-31. This mother wanted her son to know the
qualities that a woman of character would possess, so that he would not make
the mistake of choosing the wrong type. In her description, she told her son
that to find a woman of good character was more valuable than jewels and that
he, as a husband, would be able to have complete confidence in a woman of such
standing.
She would be
the type of woman who would build him up and not bring him harm. She would be
eager to work with her hands and therefore, idleness would not have room to
stay. She would always put her family first, under God, and would see to it
that their needs are met. She is the first one up and the last one to lie down
at night. She ensures that her family is cloth for the various seasons of the
year. A woman of character empathizes with the poor and does what she can to
assist. Her home reflects her worth and she is well-respected amongst those
with whom her husband befriends.
This mother
gave words of wisdom to her son, which are words that can be still used today.
Many women are in a season of waiting for a God-fearing man. For those who already
have Godly husbands, you have been blessed beyond measure. Proverbs 18:22 He
who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord. (NIV)
For those who are still waiting for their mate, be patient because God will
give you His ultimate best. Allow Him to give you the strength to have faith
and know that even though the waiting may seem long, He will keep you and help
you to remain strong as your mind stays focused on Him. Isaiah 40:31 But those who
hope in the Lord will renew their strength They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint. (NIV)
The Apostle
Paul lets us know that our feet must be fitted with readiness that comes from
the gospel of peace. All warriors’ attire must be fitted appropriately, so that
they will be able to maneuver accordingly in battle. Your shoes must fit and
your feet must be planted firmly on the Word of God. This is what is needed in
all aspects of our lives. If a soldier’s shoe was not tied correctly in battle,
it could cost him his life. The distraction alone would be of such significance
that the enemy could get the upper hand. Preparation is needed and therefore,
by studying the Word of God, and knowing which weapons and attire is best suited
for whatever battle we face, is the only way to overcome the darts of the enemy
rather it be in the form of family issues, marital problems, singleness,
employee relations and/or other.
For those of
you who are single warriors, as you wait for God’s best, take the time to allow
God to work on YOU. Prepare yourself to be the wife that God would have you to
be. Ask Him to make you ready for the mate that He will give you. If you do not
know how to cook…LEARN. If you do not practice good housekeeping…START. If you
are not good with communication…PRACTICE. If you do not know how to budget…BUY
A CALCULATOR. If you are a gossip machine…STOP. All warriors must prepare to be
a soldier before they are ever put into an actual battle. Do not just ask God
to bless you with something, but take steps towards
readying yourself for when He does. James 2:17 …Faith by itself, if it is
not accompanied by action, is dead. (NIV)
