Sin...The Devil's Weapon Against Man

Sin...The Devil's Weapon Against Man (Notes from Broadcast)

SIN

1.) INTRO--
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.(NIV)

Sin Began with Lucifer

Lucifer fell from grace. He thought that he could be like God. He

thought that he was a match for God. He developed pride in his

heart and did not want to submit to the One who created Him. He

thought that he was better than his Master. He wanted to take over

Heaven and be in control. He obviously did not like the order that

Heaven had. He thought that he could do a better job. He may have

been jealous of Jesus the Son of God. Even though he was a high

ranking angel, the position that he had was not good enough. He

broke the 10 commandments before they were ever given to Moses.

Isaiah 14:12-15 How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! You said in your heart, “I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of Zaphon. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.” But you are brought down to the realm of the dead, to the depths of the pit. (NIV)

How Did Lucifer Break the 10 Commandments?
1.)  You shall have no other gods before me.
a.)   Lucifer’s god was the god of self-entitlement.  He wanted to be like the Most High instead of submitting to Him. His desire to be God is where he made the desire for self-entitlement as his god.
2.)  You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above of on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them.
a.)   Lucifer allowed himself to be a godly image that 1/3 of the angels worshipped. They abandoned their heavenly positions to follow this false god. Therefore, Lucifer became the first false god to be worshipped.
3.)  You shall not misuse the name of the Lord you God.
a.)   Lucifer said that “he” would be like the Most High. He wanted to be God. He wanted the title that belonged to only God. He wanted the reverence and respect that is due to God. He actually wanted to “be” the Most High.
4.)  Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
a.)  Lucifer took away the eternal rest that the angels in Heaven had. This wasn’t a rest by which man gets tired. This was a rest from worry, strife, pain, suffering, evil, and chains of enslavement. By setting himself up to be a false god, he could not give them the blessed rest that is found in the true God of Heaven. Therefore, he broke this law of rest and so did the angels who followed Him.
5.)   Honor your father and mother.
a.)   Lucifer disobeyed God the Father. He set on a course that ultimately destroyed his relationship with Him. God wanted all things good for the Heavenly beings that He had created. However, Lucifer took it upon himself to dishonor God; therefore, disobeying the guidelines that he was supposed to follow.

6.)  You shall not murder.
a.)   Lucifer did not kill himself and the angels right away, but he signed their death warrant to hell when he disobeyed God. Sin cannot be tolerated in Heaven, so when he was kicked out, death row was his punishment. Therefore, he murdered himself and the other fallen angels.
7.)  You shall not commit adultery.
a.)   Lucifer allowed sin to come into his heart. That sin was pride. Therefore, he cheated on God by uniting himself with another god. The god of self-indulgence, pride, jealousy, and hate.

8.) You shall not steal.
a.)  Lucifer in his heart had stolen what did not belong to him. He
had stolen God’s throne in his heart. He had stolen God’s authority in his mind. He had stolen the worship from 1/3 of the angels that belonged to God and given to himself. He had stolen the love that God had for him and forced God to lose a piece of His creation by having to kick them out of heaven. At that moment, he stole God’s peace by creating war.

9.)  You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

a.)  Lucifer made himself look as if he had the ability to overtake
God. He lied not only to the angels but to himself by even
thinking that he was on the same level as God. Him being the
father of lies started in his own head.

10.) You shall not covet.

a.)    Lucifer coveted God’s title. He coveted God’s position. He coveted God’s power. He coveted God’s worship. He coveted God’s authority. His coveting brought about the breaking of all 10 Commandments with the end result being eternal damnation.
Lucifer was the cause of sin. He was the first one to sin and then he took 1/3 of the angels with him causing them to sin as well. That sin led to deception in the Garden of Eden. The sin that would lead to the fall of man.

2.) BREAK—Satan  Speaks Out – Devils Message to Man

WHAT IS SIN?

Genesis 3:1-7 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’ ” “You will not certainly die, the serpent said to the woman. (Satan knew that God would not strike them dead immediately because He did not immediately kill him. But he played on the words he spoke to Eve by mixing truth with error.) For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Wasn’t this what Satan wanted all along…to be “like” God? Ultimately, to be God?)When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, (God’s wisdom comes from the Holy Spirit) she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. (NIV)

Adam and Eve “sinned” because they disobeyed God.  Therefore, sin is disobedience to God.

1 John 3:4-10 Everyone who sins breaks the law, in fact, sin is lawlessness. But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him. Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born or God. This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister. (NIV)

James 4:17 If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is a sin for them. (NIV)

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (NIV)

3.)  BREAK--Missing the Mark-What is Sin?

Do Not Keep Repeating Sin!

Proverbs 26:11-12 As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly Do you see a person wise in their own eyes? There is no more hope for them. (NIV)

2 Peter 2:21-22 It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,” and, “A sow that is washed returns to her wallowing in the mud.” (NIV)

James 1:13-15 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For god cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. (NIV)

Galatians 5:13-26 You, my brothers and sister, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft, hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy, drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit, Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. (NIV)

Sin separates us from God.

Ezekiel 16:59 “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will deal with you as you deserve, because you have despised my oath by breaking the covenant. (NIV)

Joseph Fled from sin. Even though he may have been tempted to sleep with Potipher's wife, he did not yield to the temptation.

Hebrews 3:15 As has just been said, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion. (NIV)

Micah 7:18-19 Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea. (NIV)

4.)  END--What is Sin?
