When In Doubt

James 1: 5-8 (5)If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (6)But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. (7)That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. (8)Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do. (NIV)

There was once a young man who had been placed as ruler over a country after the death of his beloved father. His father was a mighty ruler, but his reign had permanently come to an end after many years of service. He watched as his father ruled the kingdom and knew that he had some very huge shoes to fill. Even though he was now the ruler of this great kingdom, there was something inside of him that knew the challenges he would face would require supernatural help. To be a great ruler was more than just a mere title, and this young man wanted to be the best ruler that he could be in order for his people to thrive.
The young man did not have the mindset that he knew all there was to being an effective leader. On the contrary, he was humble in admitting that he did not know everything that there was to know concerning ruling a nation. Therefore, he went before the Lord and offered burnt sacrifices to Him. That night, the Lord appeared to him in a dream and told him that he could ask Him for anything that he wanted. The young man reminded the Lord of the kindness that He had shown to his father and only desired for the wisdom that it would take to rule his kingdom. The Lord gave the young man what he asked for and even more. King Solomon was blessed to have wisdom, knowledge and wealth beyond measure.

Has there ever been a time in your life when you needed wisdom beyond your natural abilities. The Apostle James says that if anyone wants wisdom, the Lord will give it to him without finding any fault with it. God is always there to answer and help anyone who cries out to Him. Life is full of challenges and questions. No earthly being has the answer to all of life’s concerns. However, we serve a God who does.
But there is one thing that we must do when we go before our Heavenly Father. We must have faith that He will give us the answers to whatever we are in need of. God wants us to be full of faith. If you go to God in prayer, but then leave with doubt that He will answer, you may not get the answer because of your doubt. Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (NIV)

Therefore, it is important to believe in what you are asking God for. Now, if what you are asking does not coincide with His will or goes against His laws, of course, you will not receive it. However, the Apostle James tells us that we are not to waver back and forth in our faith. We must believe and claim that God is who He says He is, and is the Rewarder of those who trust and diligently seek Him. Never allow doubt to cheat you out of your blessing.
